Tesla Motors is a leader in the global electric vehicle movement and is constantly improving the way it manufactures and controls its vehicles.

For example, their original “Tesla Supercharger” charging stations are already widespread around the world, and their number is constantly increasing, providing an opportunity for electric car drivers to travel without restrictions. This approach of developers significantly contributes to the popularization of Tesla cars.

The success of electric cars inspires individuals to create not so global, but also very useful inventions. And, as in many areas lately, 3D technologies come to the aid of developers. Martin Hansen, a 3D printing enthusiast and Tesla car owner from northern Germany, has developed a fully functioning miniature replica of the Tesla Supercharger to power mobile phones.

The idea of creating a device came to him in 2014, and he spent a long time to bring it to life. Externally, the mechanism created using a 3D printer is no different from its full-size prototype, completely repeating its design. However, unfortunately, unlike the original, the speed of charge replenishment with its help will not be accelerated. The finished model consists of only six parts, and it will not be difficult to put them together. The device can be used with any kind of USB cable.

“I spent most of my free time researching Tesla Motors and the Model S,” says Hansen. “One day while visiting the charging station, the thought occurred to me: the network of Supercharger stations is the key to the success of Tesla cars, and every car owner would certainly like to have their own charger at home. ”

Martin's miniature station really deserves praise as it is his first experience with 3D technology. As a newcomer to 3D printing, it took Hansen months to learn 3D modeling programs before he made any headway with his project. Almost all components of the device were printed on a Zortrax M200 3D printer using white ABS plastic, with the exception of a few elements made using SLS technology from third parties. The side parts of the rack are made of aluminium.

Wishing to share the design with fans of Tesla electric cars, Hansen posted the STL files of the Supercharger miniature charging station on his website, so that everyone can become the owner of a unique 3D printed device and emphasize their individuality in an interesting way.
