Foo lions are considered a symbol of protection against evil spirits (demons), bad energies and bad people. For this reason they used to decorate palaces, buildings and houses with figures of these creatures that always come in pairs formed by a male holding an orb and a female holding a cub. An articulated model easy to print without supports.

The site also provides explanations and instructions describing how to build 3D elements, and some designers take the time to answer questions from site members. Instructables allows users to store and organize their 3D printing projects. This is done to help them work together in the future. You can think of this site as a GitHub 3D printing site where users can share their files, discuss projects, and participate in them. The site also offers the ability to make a request, so if you can't find what you're looking for, you can ask the site's community about it.
→ pinshape.com
Pinshape, a marketplace for 3D models, is similar in style (layout, look, and ability to capture likes) to the well-known site Pinterest. You can buy models from designers, or download them for printing yourself if they are offered for free. Pinshape allows users to host and share 3D model files on it. Basically, this site acts as an online store where you can buy 3D printed parts, or order your own 3D model to be printed. But if you look closely enough, you can find people who sell their products and also offer the files you need so you can print them yourself.
→ 3dfilemarket.com

Technology Selective Deposition Lamination (SDL)
- 1 History
- 2 Process: Creating a digital file
- 3 Process: Printing Model
- 4 Process: “Extraction” of model
- 5 Other additive manufacturing technologies
History
Selective deposition lamination (SDL) or 3D printing on paper was invented by Dr. Conor and Fintan McCormack in 2003.
SDL technology should not be confused with the older laminating object manufacturing technology, LOM. The LOM technology used a laser, laminated paper, and glue so that everything was glued together, including the supporting structures around the 3D model. “Removing” the model could be a real challenge, often resulting in a broken 3D model. Mcor's technology uses cutting blades, and the printer glues only the parts of the model that are needed.
Process: Creating a digital file
3D printing starts by processing a 3D data file. Mcor 3D printers support the universal standard STL file format for creating 3D product designs, as well as OBJ and VRML formats (for color 3D printing). All major computer-aided design (CAD) programs for 3D products, including free programs such as SketchUp, create files in the STL format. Completed design files offered for download, as well as files created by scanning a physical object, are usually in STL format. Mcor 3D printers come with a software package called SliceIT. (Fig. 1)
Fig. 1. SliceIT reads the digital data and "cuts" the layers of the presented computer model for subsequent printing on paper. The thickness of these layers is equivalent to the thickness of paper. The following file formats are compatible with this program: STL, OBJ, and VRML.
SliceIT reads the digital data and slices the layers of the presented computer model for printing on paper. The thickness of these layers is equivalent to the thickness of paper. The software also allows you to set the location of a part or several parts of a model within the 3D printer's camera. SliceIT runs on any standard PC with a 64-bit Windows operating system (2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7) paired with a special Ethernet card (about 10/100 speed and higher) connected directly to the 3D printer.
Process: Printing model
The first sheet is manually attached to the build plate. Positioning the first sheet correctly is not the most important, since the first few pages are joined together as a base layer before the cutting process begins (Fig. 3.1)
Once the blade and adhesive depth measurements have been verified, the printer doors are closed and the machine is ready to import data from the SliceIT software.
In the SliceIT program on the computer, the user presses “Print”, after which the printer proceeds to create parts.
First, a layer of adhesive is applied to the top of the sheet placed on the build plate. Glue is applied selectively - that is why the printing method is called "selective". In other words, a higher density adhesive will be applied to areas that will later become part of the model, and a lower density adhesive will be applied to those parts that will serve as its support (Fig. 3.2)
A new sheet of paper is fed into the printer from the paper tray and guided exactly where the adhesive was applied. The assembly plate is moved up to the hot plate, after which pressure is applied to the component parts. Due to this pressure, a strong bond is achieved between the two sheets of paper (Fig. 3.3)
When the assembly plate returns to its original position, the adjustable tungsten carbide blade cuts the sheet of paper and at the same time follows the contour of the object to create the shape of the future model (Fig. 3.4)
When this entire sequence is completed, the device starts applying the next layer of adhesive. The whole process continues until all the sheets are cut and glued together, and the model takes its final form. After the final layer is completed, the model can be removed from the assembly chamber (Fig. 3.5)
Fig. 3. How the SDL principle works
Process: “Extraction” of the model
The main advantage of the SDL process becomes apparent when you get rid of unnecessary model-supporting parts. This process is called "extraction". Due to the fact that the adhesive is applied selectively, the bond between the component parts of the model is stronger than between the supporting materials. In addition, to facilitate the process of extracting the model, the supporting material "falls apart" into small pieces, similar to dice; this prevents the fragile 3D model from breaking. (Fig. 4)
Fig. 4 Clearing the supporting structure from the model itself is easy and simple. Learn more
