Yes you heard that right! That lovely, little shop we all eventually run down to when we need a quick pop of whatever cheap tech stuff we suddenly need… or broke. Kidding aside, CD-R King has just posted in their online catalog the availability and pricing of a 3D printer.

Little is known about the origins and specifications of this 3D printer so anyone interested should definitely know what they are dealing with. The site doesn’t list anything specific aside from the price which comes in at (GET THIS!) Php100,000. This is CD-R KING we are talking about. Anyways, basing on the price and images it can be inferred that this is a larger model compared to those popping up in other online catalogs like Sulit.

UPDATE:

A bit of snooping around the DIY 3D print community, we may have found the model of CD-R KING’s 3D printer. The 3Drag 3D Printer Kit heavily resembles the model in question with a few parts and labels having only color differences but the overall design looks the same.

UPDATE: A reader has pointed out to us that both models are referenced from the Velleman K8200 3D printing kit. The specifications are as follows:

Curiously, the site lists the device for only $772 or around Php33,000…  The Velleman K8200 is available for 995USD or around Php44,000… still way below CD-R KING’s SRP. We may be looking at a larger model or the company is charging a premium for these items.

While visiting the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Yerevan, West was introduced to a 3D printer, after which he said:

“3D printing is what I fear. The Internet has destroyed the music industry, and now this device is threatening the textile industry." The guide tried to say a few words in defense of the device, noting that a 3D printer cannot create a design, and a person is needed who first comes up with what will then be printed. “Yes,” Kanye replied, “but I just want to say that the time will come when people will print their own shoes at home.”

9000 0 PHOTOPOLYMER MOLDING POLYURETHANE

Molding outsole in a heat resistant photopolymer mold printed on a Kings 3D 3530 printer in 19 hours. In China, about 100 printers work in the shoe industry.


CASTING FROM 3D METAL PATTERNS

Due to the presence of photopolymers with a low residual ash content and a low coefficient of thermal expansion, SLA is used for the growth of foundry burnout patterns. The model is dipped in a finely dispersed ceramic mortar, and then one or more layers of granular sand or ceramic are applied, depending on the design requirements. The resulting form is placed in an oven, where the photopolymer is burned out and the remaining ceramic shell is calcined. Properly selected model material burns out almost without ash residue, which is very important for some applications. Now the metal casting mold is ready. 3D printed models  are a more modern casting solution that speeds up the production process and improves the quality of castings.
