Track changes over time

BIA tests are not “true body scans” – they measure hydration. The methodology of BIA has a huge amount of inconsistency due to one’s hydration which can change from visit to visit. You simply can’t control when your members drink water or eat on a regular basis.

Additionally, most brands choose 3d body scans over BIA due to the imaging. Showing both data & body imaging is a powerful client experience.

In the fitness space, there are a few other scanners in the market. Brand’s like Crunch & F45 choose us for a few reasons. Accuracy being the main one. The handles on our machine help with accurate capture, and our official partnership with Dexa continually updates our algorithms for the most accurate body fat predictions.

The second big reason is that we have better software. We have a web portal that allows for access & control of your data. This allows owners & coaches to better work with their clients for a better overall member experience.

What appealed to us about Styku is the accuracy of the measurements and how it has a small (square footage) footprint. The equipment itself does not take up a lot of space, which is important for us in our assessment room. The self-service kiosk mode allows our members to scan themselves privately, which helps our members feel comfortable with the innovative technology. We’ve definitely seen an uptick in our show rate and our close rate as a result, and we have witnessed more people showing up to get training because of GOLD’S 3D™.” Cave said. “GOLD’S 3D ™ is a multi-beneficial tool for the brand not only because is it a sales tool, it’s a retention tool, and more importantly a member engagement tool.

Aaron Cave
Gold's Gym International, VP Fitness

We researched this category extensively and we also executed a side-by-side test against the two best options.
Styku was clearly more consistent and accurate. Our test clubs showed a double digit increase in Personal Training revenue during the test period and we also had a nice increase in the average dues per member by bundling a free monthly body scan with our results based membership. That enabled us to see benefits on two revenue fronts during the test period.

Craig Pepin-Donat
Crunch Fitness, Executive Vice President

“The risk assessment tab has been very motivating for some clients. Seeing that they are at risk for disease based off their body scan has launched several of my individual clients into action. And I'm happy to report that they are improving week over week. I would hands down recommend this product. If you're looking to take your business and your clients to the next level, then this piece of equipment could be the missing piece. What gets measured gets improved.”

Marly Paulus
Certified Body Composition Analyst, BodymetRx Owner

I finally have an objective measure that validates the results from body contouring devices.
Styku’s Scanner has become the most valuable tool in my body consultation and follow-up. Forget the tape measure and 2D photography - 3D is today’s technology.

Amazon introduced a body fat scanner. But users are unhappy with it

Amazon Fat Smart bracelet

Amazon introduced a body fat scanner.

But users are not happy with it

Oleg Voronin —

Early adopters of the Body feature on Amazon's Halo Band smartband are unhappy with how it works. This was told by the resource Gizmodo.

A new feature in Amazon's Halo Band smart bracelet allows you to determine what percentage of fat is "contained" by the user's total body weight. The measurement goes like this: using a smartphone, the owner of the bracelet takes several pictures of his body, and uploads them to the Halo Band software. After analysis and calculations, the application shows the percentage of body fat, and also forms a 3D model of the body. By moving the sliders, the user can see how he will look when increasing or decreasing the percentage of fat.

However, things didn't turn out so smoothly. Journalist Kayleigh McGarry, who reviewed the Amazon Halo Band bracelet, took measurements of her body and found that the technique not only found about 40% of her body fat (which is far from the case in reality), but also created a 3D model of her body, completely unlike her. As a result, the application told her that she had “a lot of fat” and she was at risk of cardiovascular disease. Kaylie was extremely outraged by these findings.

Previously, to validate measurements, Amazon sponsored studies that compared data from the Halo Band and measurements from the classic measurement method, dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). The tests involved 134 people of different races, ages, genders and builds. The results were extremely similar, on the basis of which Amazon concluded that its invention could replace DXA - at least in everyday life. Journalists believe that this study does not prove anything, since it was carried out with Amazon money.

Naked Labs 3D Scanning Mirror helps you keep track of your fitness progress - DFKit

Naked Labs, a Silicon Valley startup, today introduced the world's first consumer fitness tracker, the Naked 3D Fitness Tracker, which scans the entire body. The high-tech physical activity tracking system consists of a 3D full-length scanning mirror, a rotating platform scale and the Naked mobile app.

Many of us pay too little attention to our body, it's good if one or two hours a week. The sad truth is that we could do much better. We set ourselves the goal of losing weight or gaining physical mass, but without proper motivation, all our good intentions come to naught. One of the main problems that bodybuilders, gym goers and dieters face is the simple inability to see the difference in the mirror after several hours of intense training.

When we see in the mirror the same – as it seems to us – figure, an insidious thought creeps into our heads: why do I need all this? With the naked eye, it is impossible to notice the slight changes that occur to our body after each workout. If we do not have a detailed "before and after", we lose the idea of how we looked yesterday, a week or a month ago. Moreover, we always evaluate ourselves from a winning position, no matter how much we spin in front of the mirror.

Naked Labs has developed a unique fitness device Naked 3D Fitness Tracker that solves all of the above problems. It consists of a full-length 3D scanning mirror, a rotating platform scale and a dedicated smartphone app. The user stands on the scale and slowly rotates around its axis for 20 seconds. The mirror does a full 3D scan of your body. The resulting 3D model can be viewed from all angles in the Naked mobile app, which also reports the exact weight and percentage of body fat.

Viewing your body in 3D is much more informative than in a mirror, but much better results can be achieved if you use the Naked Labs invention regularly. The smart mobile app, available on iOS and Android, can process 3D scan data in a variety of ways. For example, users can open a heatmap that clearly shows muscle/fat areas and even generate a time-lapse video that shows body changes. If it's not enough for you to just look in the mirror to track your progress, then this video is just what the doctor ordered.

“We think the biggest benefit of a fitness tracker is that it helps you keep track of your progress,” says Farhad Farahbakhshian, CEO and co-founder of Naked Labs. – With Naked 3D Fitness Tracker, you can immediately see how and where the body is changing. The uniqueness of our system is that it encourages a person to take action, helps to restore health and achieve goals through the visualization of progress on the example of a 3D model of one’s own body.”

While the idea of seeing your own body in such detail seems intimidating, users of the Naked 3D Fitness Tracker Trial have found the process of tracking physical activity addictive and motivating. “Some beta testers were able to build muscle mass, others were able to lose weight and improve their health,” says Farahbakhshian. “Our pregnant clients have seen their bodies change over the course of several months. In short, our users enjoyed watching their physical changes.”

Naked Labs is working with a group of technical experts from Intel to develop a body monitoring program, and the global tech giant is backing the start-up. “We use the best Intel processors and proprietary RealSense technology to build the Naked Labs home fitness scanner,” said Josh Walden, senior vice president and director of New Technology Group, Intel Corporation.
