And only 10% are unique. Considering the average cost of one set, and converting this figure into the price of 10% of unique parts, it turns out to be very, very expensive. Is there an alternative solution that allows you to not only copy, but also create your own?

Of course, there is - printing parts for LEGO (LEGO) on a 3D printer!

The possibilities of 3D printing

3D printing opens up truly enormous opportunities. Given the affordable price of modern desktop 3D printers, almost anyone can print a part for household appliances, a toy, a souvenir, jewelry and much more. And even a child can master the technology.

3D printers differ in their characteristics. In particular, the equipment can operate using different technologies:

FDM;
SLA;
DLP;
LOM;
SLS and others.

Each technology is characterized by the use of one or another material for printing. The most affordable is FDM printing. Such a 3D printer can be easily bought as a gift for a child. How to print a LEGO part?

So, you have a 3D printer, consumables and you want to print a part for Lego. It's not difficult at all!

If you have 3D modeling skills, then in principle you can create a new part, which is not even in the database. If you do not have such skills, then you can easily download the finished 3D model of the LEGO part, correct it if necessary and send it to print. There are many sites for this, for example, resource thingiverse offers just a huge variety of 3D models, including for creativity and everyday life. Together with the thingiverse library, you can actually create complex models and customize them for specific needs.

Sometimes people complain on the forums that the printed parts don't fit, the quality leaves much to be desired. Everything will depend on the accuracy of the entered model and print parameters, and the capabilities of the 3D printer itself. As a material, it is recommended to use affordable ABS plastic, presented in the widest palette. This plastic is easy to process, which allows you to correct small inaccuracies and smooth the surface to perfection.
