Paintable Miku figurine

I have another figurine in the same style as the tricolor cat. More precisely, the model is movable, with the possibility of animation. More precisely, there are several models in different stages of long-term construction, and two have reached the 3D printer.

Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid character from a special singing simulation program. This project also turned into a long-term construction project for me - painting was planned back in December, and it lay through until May.

The model was made for the MikuMikuDance program - a free animation utility, it is clear for whom it was originally intended. The requirements are the same as for game models, with all the ensuing consequences for printing. As I mentioned in one of my posts, many authors prohibit commercial use and 3D printing of models.

There is no clause on the prohibition of 3D printing, and who will the author be banned?

Of course, you will have to fix the model, add smoothing and cut it into pieces in a mesh mixer - The cat figurine was simpler and there were no problems with coloring.

Total 13 parts. I print the details, one by one of white PETG on a border with supports. Layer 0.12 mm, I print the hands with a sacrificial tower so that the fingers do not deform. It can be seen how the top of the tower floated, from where the nozzle did not leave:

Next, the standard procedure is to knock down supports, primer from a spray can, grind, putty bumps, repeat steps 2 to 4 an infinite number of times until a smooth surface.

I eliminate irregularities from under the supports on the skirt with the help of acrygel. Nail gel is a modeler's best friend.

And for smaller parts, milk gel was used. PETG hairs are visualized, hardened and easily sanded off:

Long-term construction, and the model is primed and looks ready to be painted. I will paint from an airbrush - for the first time a full-fledged painting, and not just varnish.

Assembly requires drilling a few holes and inserting wire. It was possible to provide tongue and groove joints, but for FDM printing this is fraught with support forest and deformation. So on the wire, having previously blown up the hole with a margin:

Now the actual painting. An airbrush is a capricious thing, diluting ordinary paints thinner and pouring it in will not work. You need a dense finely dispersed pigment. I had several colors of Valleja and Pacifica, I bought the first set I came across in a nail store (I passed by, saw and bought).

Yes, not all liquid paints will work. Green metallic, for example, on the jar does not have an approval badge for an airbrush, and in practice I was convinced of this - it does not pout.

And in airbrush paints, like in spray cans, there is a metal ball that stirs the pigment. When it precipitates from standing, it is clearly visible. Shake until blue in the face for sure! Especially Pacific - the hand already hurts, but the ball is not audible. Suddenly a second wind opens up and everything mixes wonderfully:

Pasifika has a different look - there is clearly no white sediment, but a very dense pigment at the bottom and a milky liquid on top. Shake to failure!

So, the paint is mixed, we paint. What a uniform beauty.

Suddenly the pipe explodes and our creation is peeled off:

It dried for about a day, to be sure, and... it peels off from the slightest impact, not to mention the masking tape. Paint something with a second layer, and for reliability, fix it with varnish from a spray can.

Particularly unreliable was a mixture based on airbrush paint on nails (hair and a silver vest). The color of the skin was pacific based, it was only torn off where the masking tape was. Tape I use Tamiya for curves, for large surfaces - paint from a hardware store and parchment paper.

Not everything is normally printed on a 3D printer, here acrylic gel comes to the rescue again:

In the end, she got me so sick that I just fixed everything with spray varnish and touched up the white holes with a brush. I draw the eyes with gel paint, the pink strip on the hairpins is a phosphor, with a transparent gel.

The figurine is assembled with superglue (hands and ponytails), legs and bangs are glued onto a large amount of epoxy. Here it stands, glued on:

Surprisingly, it stands on its own! At least some joy after all this:

And the most interesting thing: The painted cat figurine sings in the voice of this very Miku. From me there is only a model and a long adjustment of the finished animation:

P.S. Old-timers will remember that my airbrush was not left out of 3D printed upgrades. And I chose the compressor according to the principle "to take up less space", and as a result, the Chinese tower structure loves to fall . .. so I need to print some kind of stand for it.
