Great, simple app for many scanning purposes

1.6.1 restores an earlier feature really helps SiteScape be a great tool for landscape planning. SiteScape offers three scanning densities (how closely the scanned points are packed together). The restored “low” density makes landscape scanning quick, easy, and accurate.

I haven’t tried the integrated alignment tools yet, but even if you have to manually combine scans, multiple scans in the same session are all oriented and shifted consistently compared to each other. Even using third party tools, this makes it easy to merge point clouds.

Beyond the capabilities of the app, the developers have been beyond helpful when I ran into trouble. Despite my frustration, they were patient and walked me through the solution. Top notch customer service.

Thank you for the support and for sharing your feedback with our team! We are constantly working to improve the app and always glad to jump into the trenches with folks like yourself to tackle challenges together. Cheers & happy scanning!

Free, high quality 3D point cloud capture

Recommend this app for easy, straightforward 3D point cloud capture using a newer iPhone or iPad that has built in LiDAR. It’s free - no scan limitations or annoying pop ups like some other apps I’ve tried. I can tweak the capture settings easily and increase the detail for small captures, or decrease the detail to scan larger areas. It’s fun to see the raw power of “reality capture” enabled by this app and my iPad! Make sure to check out the user group to see the cool things people are using it for, and check out the help docs to learn how to export and manipulate the captures.

Would love to have control over the range at scanning time.

Incredible

###Update
The increased storage makes taking high quality scans possible. I love this. Only request is that the files work on non-Lidar enabled devices for sharing. Obviously this won’t work for taking images, but it would be nice to share them with people who have iPhones/iPads. With the COVID-19 lockdown, I’ve found myself taking 3D photos of my son at play - would love to share them with grandparents who can’t visit.

###Original review
This takes remarkably good scans - I hope this app can handle more data in a single scan soon.

###Update reply :) easy sharing with non-Lidar devices is on the list! You can do this today by having your recipient download the free 3D model viewing app, Emb3D. One way to do this would be to send the file via iMessage then have them press and hold, copy the file, then paste it in the iOS Files app. Now that it's saved on their device they can tap the file then tap the "share icon," this opens the native share menu where they can scroll through the apps all the way to the "..." icon labeled "more" at the end. From the "more" menu scroll to Emb3D and tap it to open the file. Definitely not ideal for the grandparents but hopefully that helps!

Hi Thalesian, we completely agree! The latest update to the app has doubled the max scan size and we have even more improvements in that area coming very soon.

retention of POV?

This is overall a good app; I’m using it for a ML research project right now. However, is it possible to retain the original camera perspective? It seems like the app just chooses a random point of view. So, when I export it into XCode, the world origin is just wrong, and the coordinates are off.

Very Cool and Useful

There is room for improvement, but very very good. If possible, increase the polygon count of regions that are given a lot of attention. For example, if the sensor is focused and brought closed for an object, instead of maintaining the basic polygon count, increase it to the max provided by the sensor. Also, prioritizing the most polygon covered areas—for example, I will get up close to an object to get the most accurate and focused reading, and when I walk off and scan other surfaces and then turn around and focus the original object again, it redraws polygons no matter the density which means that many regions will be redrawn as less polygon dense. Thank you.

Hello,
thanks! Unfortunately Apple doesn't allow to increase the precision/polygon count. What the app offers is the best possible quality you can get on iOS 13.4. We'll need to wait for Apple to provide better resolution.

Best regards,
Marek

One of the reasons I upgraded my iPad!

I saw this app around the time the 2020 iPad pros were released and pushed me to upgrade from my old iPad. It’s so fun! I’d love if there was the possibility to overlay camera images over the scan in a future update, if possible!

Fine

The application is certainly good. But for some reason, the lidar scanner does not want to work on my 12 mini. For this -3 points immediately.

Hello, the iPhone 12 mini does not have the LiDAR sensor. That is why this app does not work on your iPhone.

Best regards,
Marek

Keeps everything white

You can't see what will be saved

Usually in such programs after saving textures are rendering. But here... you firstly should pay and only than understand: you will not see textures. Just white contour...

Hello Sash_aaa,
on the contrary, you can see exactly what will be saved — textures are not (yet) included. Please contact me at [email protected] if you would have any questions and I will be happy to help!

Best regards,
Marek

6 Cool iPhone LiDAR Apps That Will Make Life Easier

There are so many different modules and functions in Apple devices that some owners never use them during their use. One of them is LiDAR Sensor is a laser sensor for determining the distance to an object, which is found in the latest versions of the iPad Pro, as well as iPhones starting with the 12 Pro. Many users consider this feature useless and do not use it, but in vain: the App Store has special applications for devices with Lidar that really help in everyday life. We've picked out a few for you that we hope you'll find useful.

Seeing AI - Visually Impaired

The main purpose of LiDAR is to measure objects. In particular, it even helps those who have vision problems in everyday life. Developer Seeing AI is a Microsoft: application that recognizes nearby objects and provides a description of them to the user. In addition, the utility is able to recognize products, text, currency, color and even its intensity - just point the cameras at the object.

A cool application that helps recognize various objects

The application has a simple interface, so it will not be difficult to understand it: the developers regularly update it to improve the work of artificial intelligence. Interestingly, older iPhones, including the 6S and SE, also support it, but on smartphones with Lidar, recognition works many times better.

Scaniverse - Scanning Application

A 3D modeling application is easier than you might think: with Lidar, you can create highly detailed scans for your own use or share with others. The application allows you to view the image in 3D or in AR augmented reality mode, and then wrap it in a well-known format for 3D modeling applications.

Simple and intuitive 3D modeling application that is easy to use

Scaniverse allows to measure the distance between any points on the finished image after scanning, add filters, make changes. The application has a clear interface, and to use it there is no need to create an account or pay a subscription. Top for iPad with LiDAR - it will be even more convenient to use with Apple Pencil.

Heges 3D Scanner - object recognition

The app was launched back in 2018, so it even works with iPhone X to detect objects and colors. It works even in the dark, so it is convenient to recognize objects even in poor lighting conditions. As you already understood, the Lidar sensor increases the accuracy of work and simplifies it, but devices with Face ID, including the iPad, can be used as a scanner.

The app uses all of your smartphone's sensors to create a 3D layout

You can stream an image to another smartphone to turn one of your gadgets into a viewfinder. There is an "Infinite Scan" function - with its help you have the ability to scan very large spaces like warehouses. The only caveat is that when scanning, you need to move slowly so that the application recognizes a complex environment, including mirrors.

Capture - 3D Scan

Scanning objects is a bit like a panoramic photo. This is how Capture app works: you just take a 3D picture of something and then put it in AR. Capture creates point cloud , allowing to measure the depth of object , and then creates a 3D model.

Scans are stored in your account - you won't lose them!

This requires all sensors in the device, including LiDAR. Finished images can be sent via instant messengers, viewed in your account or downloaded. Cool app that supports even iPhone without LiDAR starting with iPhone X.

Filtsy: LiDAR AR Filters

Social networks offer various filters to make videos more interesting. But they are all the same and eventually get bored. With Filtsy, you can diversify your videos by adding AR effects to them. The LiDAR sensor will help more accurately determine the outlines of a person or any other object in the video.

An application for editing videos with various fancy filters

Precise calculations will make the background of the video look realistic and not overlap with the main subject. There are not many filters available in the free version, and a watermark appears on the video. In general, it turns out a pretty good result without using a computer!

Room Planner - Home Improvement

Saw cool home furniture, but don't know how it will fit into the interior and whether it will fit at all? No more climbing with a tape measure and guessing nothing in your head: use Room Planner for this! With it, you can not only add furniture to the room but also set parameters for the space, for example, change the size of the room and even design individual elements like flower pots.
