broken. This electric saw is my good friend and I didn’t see it - I took the broken wheel and that’s it.

It is not visible in the photo, but in addition to a crack and traces of attempts to somehow glue the gear, the teeth on the inner crown on the reverse side were completely cut off on it. I don’t know about you, but for me at that moment this task turned out to be unsolvable. 3D design skills were not enough to draw a model in Compass-3D, which I was then interested in, and after several unsuccessful attempts, I lost interest in this idea.

As time went on, the license for Compass ended, the broken wheel continued to lie on the table, and then I became interested in FreeCAD'om. Something began to work out, I switched from version 16 to 17, practiced a little more and then again my eyes fell on this gear - it was still lying on my table.

I had to print in two colors due to the fact that I did not calculate with the rest of the plastic and it ended. The wheel was printed for about 10 hours. As you can see in the photo - with supports. It was difficult to print because I messed with the retract and the filament kept getting stuck in the extruder. Fortunately, I was there and was able to prevent this disgrace, and also noticed in time that the plastic was running out. In the end, everything printed successfully (as I thought, naive) and I was eager to try on the part on the saw.

I phoned my friend and arranged a meeting, took the wheel and came to him

But it turned out that only I have things that can lie on the desktop for several months, while others, as unnecessary, put them in the far corner. And this corner is so distant that it was not possible to find it with a swoop. Therefore, the part was left to the mercy of fate until the moment when there is an electric saw. By the way, I haven’t told you yet - my friend is a very handy and determined person, with extensive experience in such matters as: building with his own hands, repairing cars (this is his main occupation) and other boats, keeping bees and cultivating grapes. Yes. Therefore, when he found an electric saw, he began to install the gear in place without any hesitation. And with his characteristic decisiveness and without notifying my modest person. When the gear refused to give in, brute physical force was applied and ... In short, that white neck that was put on the splined shaft was broken off. I forgot to say that I printed the gear with PLA plastic. And I know that I will now incur a lot of angry reproaches and fatherly advice from gurus who are sure that he is not suitable for such an application. But, unfortunately, I know about it. I allowed such blasphemy on purpose - simply because I wanted to try to print this gear, and I don’t have any other plastic at the moment.

So, my charm is broken. But, as smart people said: everything that does not kill us makes us stronger. Why? It was decided not to lose heart and not dwell on this failure. Given the visible shortcomings, I decided to change tactics. Since the printing of the wheel is quite long, I thought that it would be more correct to “cut out” pieces of critical parts from the model, those that did not fit, and size them up so that they fit the shaft. The shaft was temporarily expropriated from the owner.

And it was the right decision: the small ring was printed in less than 10 minutes. The ring is bigger - something around 15. Thus, the optimal size was chosen. Then I made changes to the model of the gear itself. And now, the next is ready - the second version of the wheel. I disabled retract. Now the print time was a little more than 7 hours, there was plenty of plastic - an almost full spool and there was no need to sit next to the printer during printing.

The wheel was removed from supports and put on shaft

Then I again went to my friend, with joint efforts we put the part in place, in the electric saw. I was not able to capture the installation process, because I myself was a participant in the process - dirty hands, lack of a tripod ...

And now the saw is working again!

P.S.

Works is a big word. While without loading checked. That is, even without the chain. There is a suspicion that PLA plastic will not withstand such conditions that are present in the saw.
