How to DIY your own Lego by 3D Printing? – SainSmart.com

Written by Chris

Have you ever built a Lego set and lost one of the pieces? Or just needed one more Lego piece to finish your own spectacular Lego creation? With Lego there’s no limit to what you can create! So, in this tutorial we are going to show you how to 3d print your very own Lego pieces! (3D Printing in SainSmart)

Step 1: Materials

  1. 3D printer with filament
  2. A 3D model to print
  3. Spray paints (depending on which colors you want your Lego’s to be)
  4. Paint brush, and oil paints
  5. Sandpaper (to smooth the layers of the 3d printed model)

Step 2: 3D PRINT LEGO BLOCK(S)

Pick your preferred color filament.  Sainsmart has a variety of colors and materials to choose from here: Sainsmart Filament (PLA, PETG, Carbon fiber, etc.)

 Layer Height : 0.2 mm | Infill: 10%

Step 3: SAND THE 3D MODEL

You may need to sand some parts of your LEGO to get a perfect fit depending on your printed settings.  After assembly, sand your 3d printed Legos to get a smooth surface.

Step 6: SPRAY PAINT YOUR LEGO’S

Use your desired spray paint colors on paint your Lego bricks, then use oil paints to draw other features onto the Lego’s like textures, images, any other features that might like on the Lego brick, or anything else you might want to add to make it work for your project.

Looking to decorate your desk or office a bit? Here is a great model of Emmet from the LEGO movie.  With a few color changes between your prints and a little painting you can really bring the print to life.

Step 1: Materials

  2. A 3D model to print
  3. Spray paints (depending on which colors you want your Lego’s to be)
  4. Paint brush, and oil paints
  5. Sandpaper (to smooth the layers of the 3d printed model)

Step 2: 3D PRINT THE MODEL

Pick your preferred color filament.  Sainsmart has a variety of colors and materials to choose from here: Sainsmart Filament (PLA, PETG, Carbon fiber, etc.)

Layer Height: 0.15 mm | Infill: 50%

Try to print multiple parts at a time to allow for adequate cooling between layers.

Step 3: SAND THE 3D MODEL

You may need to sand some parts of your LEGO to get a perfect fit depending on your printed settings.  After assembly sand your 3d printed Lego to get a smooth texture of your 3d model.
