Festival "Dark Matter" - crash-test of 3D-printed goodies
There was no BJD exhibition at this festival, so I was not going to participate.
But at the last moment I decided to go as a spectator, but with my own exhibit - to "walk" the unique 3d-printed Zhong Li and at the same time check the reaction of my colleagues.
Two days before the festival, I wanted to print cat ears from tingivers and quickly color them. There was also a very old murdered doll wig - all of a sudden, pink.
Imbalance as it is, everything is very bad...
As usual, on the night before the festival, we collect the image of my favorite, but not popular character in the style of Russian cosplay, which is senseless and merciless. And we go to frighten the fearless people with this "beauty".
The costume is not the same, the props are not the same, and the hair treacherously sticks out from under the wig (well, a beginner cosplayer does not know about a special mesh). But fun!
I suggested to everyone who wanted to "pull Dion by the ponytail, because tricolor cats bring good luck." The reactions were varied - many sensed a catch, but only two people immediately guessed who exactly was disguised. The rest asked why she had a spear (Dione shoots a bow) and why she had such a tail. Once they even took Dilyuk for a local red-haired ruler, whom the real Dione hates for personal reasons and seeks to destroy. Someone looked at the face and it came, but not immediately. I joked with a serious look that my "Dione" was swinging to level 100, washing down steroids with alcohol, so it looks a little strange...
Everyone who is not too lazy pulled the ponytail, but what laziness can be at the festival? The tail will endure everything, which cannot be said about weapons. The design of the Conqueror of the Vortex was planned to be collapsible, but during a test drive on the eve of the festival, the 3D-printed connector broke. A piece broke off, and superglue only temporarily helps here, creating sagging and breaking the geometry.
Then it will definitely fall apart, but gluing it together is not an option - with any push, the wooden base itself will break, and not in layers, but awry. The sharp corners were beaten off during the fall, but long before the day X. I provided for fastening in the hands on the "office plasticine" - they also fasten the eyes inside the head, and small intricately braided white rubber bands. Even when disassembling on the fly or breaking down, it should not fall to the floor:
The guys from the ambulance kraft help pumped the gun with a nail and heat shrink. Now the tip is holding as it should, and with the base it will still be necessary to trick. The connectors were printed in PETG - just cylindrical tubes in vase mode with a 0. 4mm nozzle and 0.04 layer. I don’t want to do it thicker so that they don’t stick out.
On the second day, I wanted to spend giving "Diona" a break, spreading rumors about her premature death, and take Whitley (Tingivers classic) from the 3D-Time studio (not advertising), passing him off as a new image. He flew on a flexible stand, which seemed very reliable, but his untimely death overtook him, and not the false Dion.
He fell off the moon right in the crowd of genshin cosplayers who promptly collected the pieces. He suffered much less than expected - the case is almost intact, only a small piece of the photopolymer handle and the latch broke off. The case itself is made of ABS, the model is more than a year old, and it cracked not in layers, but a little obliquely. With the help of superglue and some kind of magic, Wheatley was returned to his original form and went on to fly further.
The stand was sealed with adhesive tape and the screws on the handle were tightened. Everything is super, Wheatley flew ... head over heels down the stairs. The second time, and the third is not given - Gabin himself ordered. Collected again, shaken off, glued together and put to bed.
Meanwhile, Gordon Freeman is in stasis, so he is replaced by "Dion Lee" without a disguise, but with a red SBS FDplast crowbar and PETG horns, extremely printed.
Alas, I was late at the defile of the audience, and the crowbar was lost in the crowd at the award ceremony. Then a message came that he had been found - I allowed the finder to keep him, giving repair instructions. Interlayer adhesion is a delicate matter...
When everyone has moved away from the festival frenzy, the verdict is that the crash test was poorly passed, the Wheatley's handle needs to be replaced, and more authentic TPU connectors should be printed on the Whirlwind Conqueror. Will not crumble:
Although what a crash test - these figures are not supposed to be dragged, so he got into extreme conditions. In the meantime, Kingrun's direct extruder digested TPU from a Chinese sampler on the first try, and 3 spare photopolymer handles waited in the wings. One of them miraculously broke in the package...
The protagonist of the festival didn't suffer at all, but he got pretty exhausted in two days:
He received a lot of compliments from participants and spectators. Among cosplayers, 3D printing is well-known, so it is not surprising that there was a person who was in the subject. And he mistook for photopolymer printing ... ears, yes, yes. They are completely without post-processing, only painted with a composition related to the photopolymer. And then I looked at the face and didn’t believe at all that it was FDM, like that. Although I see all the layers!
That's all for now - after the festival you need to rest. And the next project is another uber-gun from the game...

Printing CAD/CAM templates on 3D printer . Part 1: examination accuracy
Surgical templates and computer-assisted operation planning allow highly accurate prediction of the results of dental implantation and orthopedic treatment. Along with this advantage, there is a serious disadvantage - the high cost of producing an individual template for each patient. The problem is solved by a new method of printing using CAD / CAM technology - using a 3D printer.
Print protocol examined by: Dr. Daniel Whitley (DDS) and Dr. Sompop Bencharit (DDS, MS, FACP).
Advantages of CAD/CAM templates
According to the results of numerous studies, we can firmly say that the use of CAD/CAM templates ensures high accuracy of implant placement: mm with an inclination of 8˚;
At the same time, CAD / CAM technologies can significantly reduce the duration of the operation and show a higher level of prosthetic quality.
Printing Accuracy Study on 3 D Printer
Scientists decided to show us how to get a quality CAD/CAM template using a Form2 3D printer and FormLabs biocompatible photopolymer resin. The surface examination was carried out using the 3 Shape D9 orthodontic scanner.00.
Specifics:
In order for CAD/CAM templates to be highly accurate, they must be produced within narrow ranges. Namely: 80% of the occlusal surface must fall within +/- 100 microns.
Result:
4 full and 2 partial surgical templates were used in the experiment. In total, 84 templates were made during the study, each of which was checked by an orthodontic scanner.
