This is a device that holds the filament spool during printing and smoothly feeds the material to the printer's extruder.
The holder must meet the following requirements:

What types of filament stands are available?
Three types of spool holders are most commonly used:
- horizontal;
- vertical;
- adaptive.
Horizontal holders for plastic spools are used in cases where the weight of the spools is much higher than the standard one, and the design features of the used 3D printer do not allow placing the spool inside the device's chamber. Horizontal holders provide high rates of spool retention and are able to ensure smooth material feeding into the extruder. Often due to the fact that the material is outside the printer chamber, horizontal holders are used in conjunction with filters that are installed to ensure that the plastic filament fed into the extruder is free of particulate matter and dust, which can significantly reduce print quality if it enters the print head.

Plastic spool 3D model
When designing a 3D model for self-printing of the filament holder, the following data should be taken into account:

Based on the input data, the following parameters should be calculated:

Self-made and purchased holder: pros and cons
Both self-made plastic holders and their ready-made counterparts offered by manufacturers have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Universal spools produced in factories may not be suitable if filaments of different manufacturers are used in printing.
