Frequently asked questions
What are the applications of laser arm 3D scanners?
It is ideal for inspection and quality control, point cloud comparison with CAD, reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, and 3D modeling of irregular and asymmetrical shapes, most commonly known as free-form surfaces.
How big can I scan using an arm Laser 3D scanning?
You can 3D scan objects from 100 mm to a maximum of 500 mm sized items. However, it's possible to 3D scan an even bigger object by using 3D software capabilities by creating a 3D scan group and matching the overlapping areas of the 3D scan groups.
What can I 3D scan using arm laser 3d scanners?
3D Scanning of sheet metal components, Die casting parts, plastic components, two-wheeler bike frames with many holes positions, and butting surfaces, or any medium-size objects that have got 2D geometric features and freeform shapes.
Can I move the parts while 3D Scanning using the Faro arm?
Movement during the Scanning will cause scanning inaccuracies, which means that while scanning with a CMM arm, it is important for the proposed part or parts to be motionless.
What are the cities in India where you provide 3D scanning services?
We provide 3D scanning services in India's populous metro cities, mainly 3D Scanning in Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, New Delhi, and Chandigarh.
Does the faro scanner give CAD output directly from the physical component?
No, 3D scanners directly manufacture ready 3D models. There is a digital reverse engineering process that converts 3D scan to CAD.

IRNITU-NR ISTU archaeologists scanned the ancient burial grounds and settlements of Transbaikalia
Employees of the research laboratory "Archaeology, paleoecology and life systems of the peoples of North Asia" NR ISTU are working on the technology of 3D scanning of archaeological objects, the head of the laboratory, Professor Artur Kharinskiy, told the press service of the university.
July 10 - 30, ISTU archaeologists together with representatives of the Department of History of the Trans-Baikal State University and Institute of History, Archeology and Ethnography of the Peoples of the Far East DO RAS studied burial grounds, cities and border systems built in the X-XIII centuries. in the valley of the Argun river (Trans-Baikal Territory). The study of these objects will help to create a picture of the life of the region in the period when its territory was part of two empires, one of which was created by the Khitans (the Liao empire of the 10th-11th centuries), and the other by the Mongols (Eke Mongol ulus of the 13th-14th centuries).
“There is a system of structures in Transbaikalia that can be called an ancient border line. At the end of X - beginning of XI centuries. The Khitan emperors, in order to protect their state from the raids of militant nomads, built a rampart along its northern borders, to the south of which there was a series of settlements - outposts. This year we carried out a topographic survey of five of them, and on one of the settlements - Middle Urtuysky, we undertook excavations. For scanning, the smallest of the settlements, Small Konduyskoye, was chosen. While Russian archaeologists do not widely use 3D scanning of large archaeological objects, we are one of the pioneers in this area,” says A. Kharinskiy.
According to Fedor Malkov , a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Cybernetics of ISTU , two scanners were used for field work: a mobile NextEngine 3D Scanner for processing simple-shaped objects that do not require high accuracy, and Faro Laser Scanner Focus 3D - for scanning objects of large sizes, for example, pisannits, rooms, interiors and structures. Recall that in June 2012, F. Malkov created a 3D model of the skull of a person who lived in the early Iron Age. Then the student developed three-dimensional models of products made of bronze, ceramics, stone and bone, etc.
“We spent about 2.5 hours scanning one burial that dates back to the Bronze Age. We scanned at night, since this method requires a certain darkening, says F. Malkov. – In this case, we moved the device over the object without removing it from the ground. Meanwhile, traditionally the object moves in a circle so that the cameras perceive the reflection and a three-dimensional model is created based on this data. 3D scanners can present a highly detailed digital model, as well as convey its general features, depending on the tasks.”
A. Kharinskiy notes that the value of the technique lies in preserving the integrity of the object under study, without extracting it from the archaeological environment.
“The fact is that archaeologists study the find in the field, make sketches and photograph it, and then the object is removed for final analysis in office conditions,” says A. Kharinskiy. - In this case, the find may be destroyed. In addition, the initial fixation is not always successful.
