Information
Thermomosaic on a 3D printer, create 3D pictures with your child.
In this article I will share my experience and tell you how to satisfy children's curiosity without spending a lot of money, of course, if you have a 3D printer.
Recently my daughter saw how different characters and patterns are made from thermal mosaic and of course she wanted to try it. After a little searching on the Internet and shopping, I realized that only large sets of 1500 pieces are sold, but knowing that my child will most likely try a few pictures and abandon this business, we decided to start small and print some simple ones on a 3D printer. figures, she happily agreed, because we will do everything together. A set of PLA plastic for a 3D pen from Plexiway helped us diversify the color scheme.
For those who don't know, thermo mosaics are small beads made of thermoplastic plastic that can be laid out in various patterns on a special form. After heating the prepared pattern, the beads are soldered together into one whole craft.
I printed out a mold from plastic of my own production, and 100 pcs. beads of various colors, it took 3 hours. Then, together with my daughter, we laid out the figurine, then we needed an iron and parchment paper.
We lay out our watermelon, just a seasonal theme, and iron it. PLA plastic melts easily and you get these pieces of juicy berries.
Since we did everything together, it brought a lot of positive and good mood, spend as much time as possible with your children.
On the Internet you can find many different options for matrices, just download and print.
Surprisingly, my daughter liked this activity so much that we still bought a large set. Now she constantly makes different crafts, and when she gets bored with matrices, I print new ones that she only wishes.
The use of Stratasys 3D printers in the production of jewelry
3D printing in jewelry is called the most promising direction in the development of functional prototyping. According to experts, by 2020, jewelry workshops, factories and private craftsmen will buy 3D printers and consumables for them in excess of $11,000,000,000 - eleven billion dollars - annually. The reason for this is very simple - three-dimensional printing opens up opportunities for the master jeweler that were previously not achievable at all with traditional modeling tools. Of course, even before it was possible to make a life-size model of jewelry or jewelry by hand - for example, from wood or plastic. But it required so much effort and time that it was justified only for expensive jewelry.
With 3D printing, a model of any product - brooches, rings, earrings, hairpins and even buttons - can be made almost instantly (the dimensions are small!) And very cheaply (again, due to the extremely meager material consumption).
On the other hand, the capabilities of industrial 3D printers are such that they can produce ready-made jewelry from metals, including precious ones - gold, platinum - and, of course, silver products. The very high accuracy and excellent surface quality of the finished sample using the SLM method even endangers the business of small private craftsmen - it becomes so easy to make a unique piece of jewelry or a small batch of jewelry that it is available almost to the buyers and customers themselves (of course, using various remote 3D- printing, it is unlikely that for the sake of a brooch someone will buy equipment worth a million dollars).
The third, purely practical, application of 3D printing in jewelry production concerns the traditional process of jewelry making. By the usual method, a master model is first created in clay, resin, or wax, which is then poured with a fluid to form the intermediate model. According to this intermediate model, a mold is made for casting the finished product - already from gypsum, into which molten metal is poured. 3D printing halves the number of stages of creating a piece of jewelry, and the most time-consuming and costly steps are eliminated - a master model can be printed right away, and from a material that is excellent for casting - the same exact wax that evaporates from the mold when pouring molten metal. This is somewhat more complicated than direct metal printing, but 3D printing equipment using SLA and PolyJet technologies is significantly cheaper than laser melting machines.
Some jewelers claim that there is no need for a 3D printer for their needs, since a relatively cheap CNC machine (of course, not the simplest one, but a 4 or 5 axis one) does the job quite well.
