New inductor sensor for maximum precision.
To achieve flawless results, the extruder must always work at a specific distance from the bed The Witbox 2 includes a new inductive sensor that measures this distance with utmost precision. The sensor is made of an electric coil that generates a magnetic field. When the bed moves closer to the field, the sensor detects it at a certain distance away and advises the user once it has reached the correct position via a small red LED. This mechanism enables precise and rigorous levelling, giving first class results.
Print what you imagine.
The extruder is a key component because it pushes the filament through the hot-end causing it to melt. We have designed and developed a new extruder for the Witbox 2 incorporating a Double Drive Gear traction system that provides optimal grip of the filament: applying pressure, the two gearwheels flawlessly slide the filament to the end of the Hot-End. With the risk of obstruction minimised, a greater variety of filaments can be used, such as PLA, bronze, wood, copper and even flexible materials like FilaFlex.
We are evolving 3D printing.
Witbox was our first 3D printer. It was ranked in the top five best printers in the world and reached more than 50 countries in just under a year. But we wanted more. Building on an excellent product, we have managed to create a more reliable, convenient and practical 3D printer. A ready-to-use printer that is perfect for working in domestic, professional and educational environments, delivering extraordinary results.
100% BQ electronics.
The BQ Zum CNC is a new circuit board which has been specifically designed for the Witbox 2 by the BQ hardware team. This component allows a more fluid movement of the motors and offers improved heat dissipation.
All the Witbox 2 connections are protected and the digital potentiometers eliminate manual adjustments. The Witbox 2 boasts a new, more intuitive, graphic LCD display with higher resolution, improving user experience. The interface, along with the electronics that control the display, have also been developed in-house.
Auto-levelling: making 3D printing easier than ever.
Witbox 2 has a new auto-levelling system, freeing you from having to manually adjust the bed. When activated, the printer can detect any incline using the inductive sensor. It then adjusts the movement of the motors for perfect printing, even on a sloping surface.
Share, improve, evolve.
We believe in co-creation and Open Source Initiative. We contribute with our knowledge and work to the Technological Heritage of Humanity so that people can use it, make it grow and share it back. We believe that knowledge has no limits, and that´s why the firmware and hardware of the Witbox 2 is 100% open source.

About BQ
BQ are one of the European leaders in technology - manufacturing 3D printers, robotics, smart phones and tablets from their factory in Spain. Building on the success of the Witbox (which ranked in the top five best 3D printers worldwide) BQ have developed the Witbox 2 - a ready-to-use printer perfect for an educational environment, offering exceptional value for money. The Witbox 2 combines a huge print area (the volume of five reams of A4 paper!) with phenomenal precision and print quality. Classroom safety is a key feature, with the fully enclosed, lockable design.
Designed for Reliability
In any 3D printer the extruder is a key component, and poor design or manufacture can result in endless frustration. BQ have designed and developed a new extruder for the Witbox 2, incorporating a Double Drive Gear traction system which provides consistent and flawless filament feed. A wide range of exciting filaments are compatible such as bronze, copper, wood, brick, silk, linen, colour change, fluorescent, and even truly flexible materials like FilaFlex. In fact any filament can be used, and BQ have such confidence in their design that this will not affect the 2 year warranty provided with the printer.
No Tape or Hardware
The auto-levelling system employs inductive sensor technology using a magnetic field to calibrate tip height with utmost precision. The resulting print quality is impeccable, and no manual adjustments are required.
A LokBuild base is included avoiding the need for messy adhesives, hair-spray, acetone or masking tape. This unique product provides a stable printing surface with excellent adhesion, avoiding warpage, and the frustration (and possible printer damage) caused by prints lifting part way through a build. When printing is complete the model can be removed cleanly with minimal effort.
Software
To prepare the model for printing, the Witbox 2 is fully compatible with well-known Cura or Slic3r software. Both packages are simple, intuitive and widely used in the 3D printing industry. Files can be transferred directly via USB, or saved to SD card and loaded via the built in reader.

Second Coming: Witbox, Hephaestos
What everyone was waiting for happened. On the 14th, BQ Day was held, where the company shared its plans for the future. And finally…
- Hephestos 2, the second model of the legendary DIY printer, which left no one indifferent;
- Witbox 2, an equally legendary 3D printer that has caused a lot of controversy here on 3DToday. It's back and ready to prove once again that print stability and workspace size matter. nine0008
BQ does not hesitate to launch a full-scale offensive on all fronts and we are happy about it. Both a completely home printer and a semi-professional printer have received their logical development. Let's see what's inside?
HEPHESTOS 2: PROFESSIONAL PRINTING, THE SPIRIT OF THE MAKER
Hephaestos is a DIY printer that achieves professional results. Numerous reviews have repeatedly shown that printing is possible immediately after assembly, even if the assembler has dealt with a DIY printer for the first time. Like the first model, Hephaestos 2 is based on the Prusa i3 design, the most popular in the RepRap community. BQ has managed to create a professional 3D printer through a number of major improvements while maintaining the original spirit. The new approach to the design also allowed a significant increase in the working area. Now its dimensions reach 210x297x220 mm. Thus, the working volume of Hephaestos 2 is larger than that of the first version of Hephaestos EVEN with an extended platform.
MATERIALS AND DESIGN ARE THE KEY TO SUSTAINABILITY
BQ understands the importance of consistent printing. There is nothing worse, after several hours of waiting, to see on the working platform not the desired object, but vermicelli. And Hephaestos 2 was developed based on this position. Plastic parts have been replaced with metal ones. Now the 3D printer is predominantly made of steel and aluminum, which provides appropriate stability and a stronger structure. These materials are combined with translucent polymethacrylate, which hides the “insides” of Hephaestos 2. Like the previous model, this 3D printer is installed on three points of support, but a retractable “leg” has been added, which will allow you to adjust the height of the printer and once again stabilize it. nine0003
3, 2, 1 … PRINT!
Assembly of the previous Gefesha took about 6-8 hours. For an experienced user - 5 hours. There are legends about kung fu masters who manage in 3-4 hours. The new Hephaestos is designed in such a way that it takes an average of 2 (Two!) hours to assemble it. During a demonstration of the printer at BQ Open day, a person completed it in 56 minutes. New parts that reduce the number of additional components, as well as convenient packaging, have made it possible to achieve this result. Thus, just a couple of hours are enough to assemble a 3D printer! And yes, it's ready to use. nine0003
YOU CAN IMAGINE. CAN CREATE
Hephaestos 2 can print most materials on the market. BQ seriously “pumped” their extruder by changing the principle of feeding the filament - now it is a double drive, made in the form of two gear wheels, evenly pulling the filament to the hot end. Thus, Hephaestos 2 can easily print, for example, FilaFlex.
A NEW SENSOR FOR MAXIMUM PRECISION
Clearly, flawless print quality is achieved when the 3D printer is properly calibrated, i.e. there is a certain distance evenly between the extruder nozzle and the platform. In Hephaestos 2, a special inductive sensor is installed on the extruder, which, when calibrated, in case of the correct position, will signal you with an LED. It remains only to be glad that the era of calibration “with a leaflet” is a thing of the past. In addition, using the sensor, you can start the auto-calibration of the table. This will take into account the angle of the platform and adjust the robot motors to achieve excellent print quality EVEN on an inclined surface. nine0003
But still, the main and fundamental difference between Hephaestos 2 and Hephaestos 1, respectively, is ...
100% ELECTRONICS FROM BQ
All the main electronic components of the printer have been combined into one proprietary board - Zum Mega 3D. This is 100% developed by BQ, it includes a number of new, as yet unannounced features and a nice bonus in the form of a micro-USB connection. In addition, the board has significantly better heat dissipation and finer control over the 3D printer motors. In addition, a new graphical LCD has been developed, which in turn further simplifies the user experience. nine0003
Nothing to say, impressive! And what will please the older brother?
WITBOX 2: PROFESSIONAL QUALITY HOME PRINT
The Witbox was the first 3D printer for BQ. And in less than a year, he was in the TOP-5 printers in more than 50 countries around the world. This is a great result, but you always want more. Witbox was initially positioned as a home printer, the quality of which will be satisfied even by professionals. BQ continued to work in this direction to create a more reliable, convenient and practical printer. Create a ready-to-use 3D printer out of the box that is ideal for home, professional and educational environments, delivering extraordinary results. nine0003
PRINT WHAT YOU CAN IMAGINE
Like the Hephaestos 2, the Witbox 2 features a new extruder. Thus, designed by BQ and equipped with a double drive. The manufacturer claims that the developed filament supply system minimizes the likelihood of clogging and ensures flawless delivery of the filament to the hot end nozzle. And, of course, the wide compatibility of such an extruder with printing materials. Bronze, copper, wood plastic, rubber and simply PLA - Witbox 2 can handle all these materials without any problems. nine0003
INDUCTION EXTRUDER SENSOR
As mentioned above, like the Hephaestos-Witbox pair, the Hephaestos 2-Witbox 2 are equipped with the same extruders. This means that most of the improvements that affected Gefeshi are also valid for Vityun. This also applies to the inductive sensor, which can either help you calibrate the platform or take over the task.
As with the Hephaestos 2, the sensor allows the platform to be calibrated so that perfect printing is possible even if the platform is level. The key to this is the special motor control. nine0003
And of course Witbox 2 could not be installed ...
100% ELECTRONICS FROM BQ
Unlike Hephaestos 2, Witbox 2 has a more serious board - BQ CNC, developed by BQ hardware team. In addition to improved heat dissipation and smoother movement of all 3D printer motors, the advantage of this board is that all Witbox 2 connections are well protected, and electronic potentiometers eliminate the need for manual adjustment.
Witbox 2 also has a brand new LCD screen with a new, intuitive interface. Apparently, the screen duplicates that of Hephaestos 2 and is also a BQ development. nine0003
As we can see, both BQ 3D printers have undergone significant changes. And the changes are not only in terms of design, but also software. BQ is in no hurry to reveal all the cards and we do not fully know what new “features” will be in Hephaestos and Witbox at number 2. But even the information that was announced is enough to look forward to new items on the market. It's no joke: completely new boards developed in BQ! Inductive and correctly, not collectively tuned sensor for auto-calibration! New double drive extruder! And you know what is the best thing about all this splendor? nine0003
SHARE. IMPROVE. GROW
BQ strongly believes in community, collaboration and Open Source. They believe that knowledge as such is limitless and contribute by sharing their technologies and developments. You got it right. Both the software and the hardware of both Hephaestos 2 and Witbox 2 are completely open. And this means that soon everyone will be able to get acquainted with the source code on gitHub.
Interesting? Intrigued? We, too. Stay tuned! nine0003

The same question keeps coming up. Why does a 3D printer cost so much? Let's look into this. Let me tell you right now that this is just a glimpse. If you dig deeper, it's even more difficult. We have repeatedly calculated the cost of components and still have questions. “What is selling so expensive?” Well let's get started. The cost of components is known. But here, too, there are nuances. …
