Sodick CNC and CAM system with “Z-asso” functions.
After the tool mold is designed using a 3D CAD system that supports the design of cooling channels, the temperature variations of the plastic are simulated using the CAE system. Tubular molds

Inexpensive linear actuator - actuator based on the Sarrus mechanism
Linear actuators are used in all modern cool devices: 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC. One of the main factors affecting the cost of linear actuators is the linear guide, which consists of components that keep the driven part of the device running straight (for example, a set of precision rods and linear bearings). nine0011
Guide component prices can range from tens to thousands of dollars depending on their size and accuracy. One way to get around the high cost of these components is to replace them with a mechanism that converts rotational motion into linear motion. The Sarrus mechanism, invented in 1853 by Pierre Frédéric Sarrus, is just one such mechanism that can provide perfectly smooth linear motion, and for which no reference manuals are needed. nine0005
This project uses simple 3D printed or laser cut plates and plastic "live" loops to create an inexpensive Sarrus movement. Then a NEMA 17 stepper motor and a threaded rod are added to make them move. The actuator stroke in this project is approximately 254mm, but a larger or smaller version can be made by simply changing the length of the connecting plates.
Step 1: Materials and Tools

- Plastic hinges (6 pieces, bought by me from McMaster-Carr, part number 1637A713)
- Flat head screws, thread 6-32 x 9.5 mm long (24 pieces)
- Press nut, 6-32 thread (1 pack of 25, bought by me from McMaster-Carr, part number 94674A515)
- Hex socket head screws, M3x0.5 x 12 mm long (2 pieces)
- Hex nuts, M3x0.5 (2 pieces)
- Hex socket head screws, M3x0.5 x 10 mm long (4 pieces)
- Shaft sleeve, 5 x 8 mm (1 piece)
- NEMA 17 stepper motor with M3x0.5 threaded mounting holes (1 piece)
- Nut Acme M8 (1 piece)
- Threaded rod Akme M8, 300 mm long (1 piece)

Step 2: Print or Cut Binders
Using the attached files, 3D print or laser cut the following parts:
- Bonding plate (4 pieces)
- Engine plate (1 piece)
- Drive plate (1 piece)
I printed my parts with gray ABS plastic. If you laser cut the pieces, they should be about 6.35mm thick. Wood, acrylic, MDF or any other similar material is suitable as a material.
I am attaching the STEP files for those of you who want to make changes to the project. If you are planning to use this electric actuator in a real machine, you will probably need to add your own mounting holes and/or increase/decrease the length of the connection plates to suit your needs. nine0005

Step 3: Insert Press Washers
Insert washers into binder, motor and drive plate. Pay attention to the orientation of the motor and drive plates.
Step 4: Install the hinges on the binding plates
Install the hinges according to the photos and fasten them firmly with four flat head screws. Do not strip the threads with too much pressure.
Repeat the procedure and loop the two remaining tie plates together. You should end up with two sets of connected plates.
Step 5: Mount the hinges on the motor
Position the motor plate and two sets of ties as shown in the photo. Install two hinges with eight flat head screws. nine0005
Step 6: Install the drive hinges
Position the drive plate and link plates as shown in the photo. Install the two plastic hinges with eight flat head screws.
Step 7: Install the Acme Nut
Insert two M3 x 12mm Allen screws through the actuator tie as shown. Lower the Acme nut on them. Screw two M3 hex nuts over the screws. Turn over the drive plate. Tighten the screws by holding the nuts with pliers and turning the screws with a suitable hex wrench. nine0005
Step 8: Attach the stepper motor
Attach the stepper motor to the motor mount using four M3 x 10 Allen screws.
Step 9: Attach the shaft sleeve
Slide the 5mm shaft sleeve onto the motor shaft, tighten the screws with a hex wrench.
