The renowned manufacturer of filaments for 3D printing Nanovia has put together two of the most resistant plastic materials that exist in the industrial field, polycarbonate (PC) and PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene) to obtain a truly advanced final material.
This material is based on alloy PC with a large percentage of PTFE. Polycarbonate provides its property with high mechanical resistance and PTFE complements it by reducing wear and friction. At higher the PC/PTFE is resistant to high temperatures (130ºC), becoming a safe bet when making mechanical moving parts such as gears and bearings.
The coefficient of friction of the PC/PTFE is really low (in static 0.18 and dynamic 0.14), values that very few materials of the world of 3D printing have. The friction of the wood against itself presents higher values (in static 0. -7 mm3/Nm). This quality is essential to make durable parts without worrying about the proper functioning of the manufactured part. In addition, the PC/PTFE filament supports high operating temperatures even at high pressure loads (130°C with a pressure of 1.8 MPa) and is considered a self-lubricating material. If you need a material with even lower wear values, it's recommended to use the Tribo Plus.
The PC/PTFE also stands out as the only existing hydrophobic filament for 3D printing, this means that this material repels water. This is because it isn't a material miscible with water, the molecules of the PC/PTFE aren't able to interact with water molecules neither by ion-dipole interactions nor by hydrogen bonds. A clear example of this case would be to mix water with oil.
The PC/PTFE is recommended for experienced users who have 3D printers with closed chamber and high power extruders (285-295ºC). As in the case of using PC filament (PC-MAX), a hot base (100-110ºC) with a BuildTak adhesive sheet is recommended.
In summary, the fusion of the PC with the PTFE results in a material with a high mechanical resistance, with a high resistance to temperature and with a high resistance to humidity, which makes it an advanced material for 3D printing FDM/FFF.

The PC/PTFE is an advanced material of 3D printing which is recommended to be used by experienced users and with 3D printers that reach an extrusion temperature of 300ºC, hot base (100ºC) and closed cabin. In addition, the work area should have air extraction or adequate protection. When older, it is necessary to use an adhesive sheet (BuildTak) to ensure that the piece is always well attached to the printing base. If you need more adhesion, you should still apply DimaFix on the BuildTak sheet.
In case of post-processing (sanding, drilling, milling, etc.) it's recommended to use gloves, goggles and a protective mask for the safety of the user.

Hi Hubbers,
We need to create spare parts for lab equipment which is usually made out of polytetrafluoroethylene/Teflon. So, we are wondering whether it is possible to print this material using 3D printers? It typically melts at much higher temperature than your run-of-the-mill 3D printer (330°C vs. 260°C). But I’m thinking that there may be printers out there with hotter hotends or faster melting PTFE-like materials. Do you know more?

No. PTFE will disintegrate before melting. Otherwise I would have done it already

No, as said, PTFE will break down before melting. On top of that, above 250C PTFE starts releasing some truly nasty fumes that are known to be fairly toxic. Please don’t try it.
Most products with Teflon such as nonstick cookware is made with the Teflon directly applied to the surface. Products made from solid Teflon are usually milled. It’s unfortunately not very feasible to (as a normal consumer) create Teflon parts, but you may find a service willing to mill Teflon for you.

Perhaps you may want to look into Perfluoroalkoxy alkane (PFA) or more likely Fluorinated ethylene propylene (FEP) (brandnames: Teflon FEP, Neoflon FEP, Daikin/Dyneon FEP) which have lower melting temperatures (particularly FEP with a melting temperature of 260C for the purpose of melting and injection molding. I don’t know if this topic has been discussed (anywhere) or if anyone has tried it. One may want to do some additional research prior to using it, especially if it’s to be used with biological organisms. If you are to believe the information on Wikipedia it seems that it could work, in theory.
Searching for these materials results in products not suitable for 3D printing (i.e., sheets, tubes, rods at McMaster-Carr and US Plastics), unless you can extrude the filament yourself. However a Google search of “1.75mm FEP” may be promising.

I do see some results for printing with such types of plastics on the RepRap wiki and some other possible sites. Some have been looking into alternative plastics as well (such as PVDF) for certain characteristics, so depending on the application you can perhaps try an alternative plastic.

- And as always Gearbest send me good product. My 3d printer tube has been worn out by nozzle feed holding ring. So this 1 m is enough to replace my tube in bowden extruder 3 times (each time 33-34 cm needed to be installed between extruder and heating head).
