FAQ's
How much does your 3D printing service cost?
The cost of your 3D printed parts depends on factors such as part volume, part complexity, choice of material, which 3D printing technology is used, and if any post processing is required. For more details on these cost factors, see our article on the cost of 3d printing. To check the cost of your 3D printed part, simply upload a CAD (.STL) file and select your material and 3D printing technology to receive a quote within seconds.
How do you guarantee the quality of my prints?
Your parts are made by experienced 3D printing shops within our network. All facilities are regularly audited to ensure they consistently meet the Hubs quality standard. We include a standardized inspection report with every order and offer a First Article Inspection service on orders of 100+ units.
We have partners in our network with the following certifications, available on request: ISO9001, ISO13485 and AS9100.
Follow this link to read more about our quality assurance measures.
How do I select the right 3D printing process for my prints?
You can select the right 3D printing process by examining which materials suit your need and what your use case is.
By material: if you already know which material you would like to use, selecting a 3D printing process is relatively easy, as many materials are technology specific.
By use case: once you know whether you need a functional or visual part, choosing a process is easy.
For more help, read our guide to selecting the right 3D printing process. Find out more about Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) and Stereolithography (SLA).
How can I reduce the cost of my 3D prints?
In order to reduce the cost of your 3D prints you need to understand the impact certain factors have on cost. The main cost influencing factors are the material type, individual part volume, printing technology and post-processing requirements.
Once these have been decided, an easy way to further cut costs is to reduce the amount of material used. This can be done by decreasing the size of your model, hollowing it out, and eliminating the need for support structures.

4D printed microneedles offer a painless solution
Rutgers University engineers drew inspiration from parasites and bees.
14 Using 3D printing and smart materials that change shape once printed, the Rutgers team has created a painless and less invasive way to deliver subcutaneous injections than currently available.
Today, hypodermic needles are the primary medical instrument used for blood sampling and drug or vaccination injections. Anyone who has received an injection knows that it is uncomfortable. Conventional microneedles are gaining momentum in the medical sector because they offer practitioners a way to reduce the pain of injections and minimize the risk of infection. However, they present problems in terms of tissue adhesion for controlled drug delivery. 4D printed microneedles may offer a solution.
“We think our 4D printed microneedle array will allow for more reliable and sustainable use of minimally invasive, painless, and easy-to-use microneedles for drug delivery, wound healing, biosensing, and other soft tissue applications,” explained Howon Lee. assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the School of Engineering at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

Inspired by the natural world, the research team drew on the organ structure of certain creatures, such as parasite microchips, honey bee stingers and porcupine quills, to develop innovative printed microneedles. Based on this, the research team developed a microneedle that, when inserted, connects to skin tissue.
According to Rutgers engineers, they used a combination of micro 3D printing and 4D printing to create "backside notches" on the microneedles for better adhesion to the skin. The 4-dimensional microneedles were tested on a sample of chicken muscle tissue and showed promising results: the printed microneedle was 18 times stronger than a conventional microneedle and outperformed previously reported samples.
Also, adhesive microneedles can play an important role in biosensing as they can detect DNA, enzymes, antibodies and other health indicators. For diabetic patients who need to take many blood samples to control their blood sugar levels, microneedles may offer a less invasive technique.
A scientific study on 4D printed needles has been published in Advanced Functional Materials.
