FAQ's
How much does your 3D printing service cost?
The cost of your 3D printed parts depends on factors such as part volume, part complexity, choice of material, which 3D printing technology is used, and if any post processing is required. For more details on these cost factors, see our article on the cost of 3d printing. To check the cost of your 3D printed part, simply upload a CAD (.STL) file and select your material and 3D printing technology to receive a quote within seconds.
How do you guarantee the quality of my prints?
Your parts are made by experienced 3D printing shops within our network. All facilities are regularly audited to ensure they consistently meet the Hubs quality standard. We include a standardized inspection report with every order and offer a First Article Inspection service on orders of 100+ units.
We have partners in our network with the following certifications, available on request: ISO9001, ISO13485 and AS9100.
Follow this link to read more about our quality assurance measures.
How do I select the right 3D printing process for my prints?
You can select the right 3D printing process by examining which materials suit your need and what your use case is.
By material: if you already know which material you would like to use, selecting a 3D printing process is relatively easy, as many materials are technology specific.
By use case: once you know whether you need a functional or visual part, choosing a process is easy.
For more help, read our guide to selecting the right 3D printing process. Find out more about Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) and Stereolithography (SLA).
How can I reduce the cost of my 3D prints?
In order to reduce the cost of your 3D prints you need to understand the impact certain factors have on cost. The main cost influencing factors are the material type, individual part volume, printing technology and post-processing requirements.
Once these have been decided, an easy way to further cut costs is to reduce the amount of material used. This can be done by decreasing the size of your model, hollowing it out, and eliminating the need for support structures.

Swiss students 3D printed Dyana robot cat
News
.
The complex structure was realized using several 3D printing technologies, including selective polymer powder laser sintering (SLS) on a Sintratec 3D printer.
The Dyana project began in the fall of 2020 as a collaborative effort of fourteen students from four universities - the ETH Zurich (ETH Zurich), the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) and the University of Applied Sciences Northwest Switzerland ( FHNW). The children had to create a unique robot: according to the designers' idea, a robo-cat should be able to realistically move and express emotions.
“Our idea is to combine animatronics and movie characters with highly mobile robots that can move around in the real world. Building a robot from scratch in just nine months, including the development of legs, pelvic and shoulder mechanisms, is a difficult task. From the very beginning, we decided to take advantage of the freedom of design available through additive manufacturing,” says Andrina Grimm, an engineering student and head of the department responsible for the mechanical part of the project.
The team used several 3D printing technologies at once, including selective thermal sintering of polymer powders (Multi Jet Fusion), 3D printing familiar to FDM lovers, and selective laser sintering (SLS). In particular, the skin of the robot was printed on a laser 3D printer. Some parts are made in two copies at once, so that in the event of a breakdown when the car falls, they can be quickly replaced and testing can continue. The skin is made of polyamide-12, and the Swiss company Sintratec, which produces SLS 3D printers, helped with the production.
“The three main criteria are weight, design freedom and production speed so that we can change designs quickly. The skin, for example, consists of very light parts, as we tried to reduce the overall mass of the system. The hips and shoulders are made using selective laser sintering technology using polyamide-12. This made it possible to obtain sufficiently impact-resistant and flexible parts,” explains Andrina.
The use of 3D printing technology has eliminated costly alternatives such as piece heat-pressing or injection molding. The finished parts were painted, provided with silicone pads and installed on the car. The project will form the basis of the theses of several participants.
“Our project demonstrates the suitability of 3D printing for the manufacture of robot bodies. I believe that this technology has a huge potential in the field of robotics,” concludes Andrina.
Z-Axis is the exclusive distributor of additive equipment from Sintratec in Russia and the countries of the Customs Union. Detailed information is available on the official website.
