What Can You Expect at 3D Print Paris 2022?

Trade shows are still an excellent for additive manufacturing users to meet and learn about personalized solutions. 3D Print Paris, a key event for the 3D printing industry, is now back for its second edition, taking place on October 19th and 20th, and many companies have already reserved their booths. If you specialize in additive manufacturing solutions, then you won’t want to miss out on this opportunity. Industry players such as HP, Raise3D, Xerox, Massivit 3D, and Xact Metal will be in Paris to present their equipment and solutions.
3D Print Paris is also an opportunity to exchange with industry players and to understand market developments through dedicated conferences. This year, 10 conferences have been announced in addition to a Startup Contest to reward the most innovative startup in the sector. Among the topics covered: data protection in additive manufacturing, sustainable development, freedom of design, funding available to invest in the technology or materials from the circular economy. 3D Print Paris, the Meeting Place for Leading Actors in 3D Printing
The entire additive manufacturing value chain will be on hand, from software publishers to 3D printing service providers, distributors, and manufacturers of 3D scanners and printers. For Grégoire Routin, Director of EM3D, “3D Print Paris is the perfect opportunity for EM3D to showcase its know-how in large-scale 3D printing to the many decision-makers from industry who attend the show. In particular, we hope to promote EM3D as an integrator of large-scale 3D solutions. Our goal is to demonstrate the incredible evolution of additive technology, which both facilitates large formats and allows for the quick, automated, and reliable creation of premium, high-volume prototypes for the automobile, railway, aeronautics, design, and communication industries.”
3D Print Paris is the perfect place to introduce the latest market innovations and meet the needs of visitors in search of tailor-made solutions.
The show will welcome numerous decision-makers, managers, project leaders, and executives. 60% come from the Ile-de-France region in France but there are also many from abroad.

The second edition of the show already has 56% more exhibitors than last year, including colorFabb, a manufacturer of filaments for FFF/FDM 3D printers. How 3D printing will change the way we travel
Few inventions in the manufacturing industry have generated as much buzz as 3D printing has.
It began to seem to many that it was enough to get a 3D printer, learn a little theory and start printing anything, from edible raspberries to parts of the human body. 3D printing is of particular interest to travelers who understand that with the advent of 3D printers, the need to carry heavy suitcases and backpacks automatically disappears - everything you need on the road can simply be printed...
Janne Kittanen, a Finnish artist who has created a series of 3D printed clothes, shoes and bags, thinks so. An exhibition of Kittanen's things called "Lost Baggage" was held this spring in Rotterdam, at the "Galerie VIVID" gallery. “If you suddenly want to go to Paris, you just need to go to the airport and get on the plane without stopping home to pack,” he says. "It's a fantasy world that is becoming reality now."
Unfortunately, so far 3D printing has neither practical nor economic sense, and can only be used to design and produce futuristic things. 3D printers are expensive - prices start at $500.
Materials are also not cheap - from $50 to $500 per kilogram. In addition, printers can only print a single item from one material, which seriously limits the variety of items produced. Do not forget that designing a thing and loading a program into a printer are quite complex processes, and the printing itself takes a lot of time - printing one element takes several hours. nine0003
“It's not that simple,” explains Phil Reeves, managing director of 3D printing consultancy Econolyst. “You can't push a button and get a product. It's just another production technology, that's all. Yes, it's pretty smart and flexible, but 3D printing doesn't materialize things out of nowhere. Traditional production methods are much cheaper. And if you want to go to Paris without luggage, do it and buy everything you need upon arrival.”
When asked if Kittanen's creations could be useful, Reeves replied: “Things like that are more individual. Why not produce exclusive clothing and accessories and sell them at the appropriate prices? In extreme cases, you can make several copies.
By the way, it is for this reason that 3D printing is primarily interested in the field of healthcare. Studies have shown that one of the leading pharmaceutical companies Visiongain, which spent $1.3 billion on advanced technologies in 2013, will increase this item of expenditure to $4 billion by 2018.” nine0003
In the future, 3D printing will become an integral part of medicine and will one day help people, including travelers. For example, if a person falls ill, has an accident, breaks a prosthesis, etc., he does not have to go to a specific clinic or wait for a parcel with a suitable “spare part” from home. The hospital, equipped with 3D printers, will print everything needed on the spot.
“The technology will be used not only in medicine. Let's say you're a photographer who has a special lens adapter in his arsenal. If you break it while traveling, you will not need to order it abroad. It will be enough to contact a special company that will print this adapter,” says Nick Allen, founder of the London-based 3D Print UK printing house.

“I'm not saying that 3D printers will print everything. But why not allow this option: the scanner takes your parameters at the airport before boarding the plane and sends them to the destination. And upon arrival, for example, in a hot country, ready-made sandals and light clothing will already be waiting for you,” Kittanen reflects.
While the full potential of this new manufacturing method is expected to take place in the coming years, 3D printing is already working for travelers. In the construction of new aircraft, components created using 3D are already used today. In March of this year, Airbus announced that the next-generation A350 XWB aircraft will include 3D printed parts. nine0003
The use of 3D printing in the aircraft industry is explained very simply. To create prototype parts, you first need to make the appropriate tools, develop machines, templates, etc. Thanks to 3D printers, this is no longer necessary, which significantly reduces the cost of production.
In addition, industry experts such as Allen note that traditional manufacturing uses solid block cutting or mold casting, while 3D printing can produce complex and hollow elements with little to no waste. According to Airbus research, 3D-printed parts weigh 30-55% less, and the material consumption rate, compared to traditional production methods, reaches level 90%. All this suggests that the production of parts will reduce not only the weight of the aircraft itself, which will positively affect fuel consumption, but also power consumption. But whether this will affect the cost of flights is still unknown.
While creative minds like Kittanen look forward to airports printing Lost Baggage, many are skeptical of the new technology, believing that if it becomes possible, it will only be in the distant future. In fact, the future is not as far away as we think. “It only took us ten years to have the entire planet entangled with the Internet,” says Kittanen. "3D production is an inevitability that will definitely take place.
