While wet filament usually doesn’t appear any different than dry filament while on the spool, there are a few major indicators that your 3D printing filament has absorbed moisture.
Brittleness
One of the easiest ways to check if your filament has taken on excess moisture is to check for brittleness. Healthy PLA filaments don’t snap when you bend them. The PLA filament strand should bend back and forth several times without breaking. If your filament (or, as is usually the case, certain parts of it) snap in two when bent, moisture is the most likely culprit.
This can cause a lot of issues during the printing process. Your filament can snap mid-print, and if your 3D printer doesn’t have a filament sensing feature, your print will fail. 3D printing.Hello everyone! Quite a long time ago I made a container for filament in the amount of 2 pieces. In fact, this is a storage for spools of plastic with the function of feeding filament to the printer, as well as protection from dust and partially from moisture.
Starting materials.
I used 27.7 liter plastic food containers as a basis.
I chose the dimensions so that 5 kg plastic spools could fit.
The lids do not close hermetically, but rather tightly.
Comfortable carrying handles that double as latches.
The axis for the coils will be a metal thin-walled nickel-plated tube with an outer diameter of 22 mm. I took the pipe from an old broken mop.

Design tested after several months of operation. There were no problems with thread feeding. This of course also depends on the quality of the winding of the thread on the spool by the manufacturer and on the stability of the thread diameter. My plastic is 1.75 mm in diameter. I don't use the other one.

Filament containers I use.
Friends, let's decide right away - who is not interested in containers (boxes, boxes, etc.) for plastic, their plastics "do not get wet" and they hang coils on hairpins, garage nails, on branches in a hut and etc. - pass by and don't tell your "secret enlightenments".
When I bought my printer, I went to read about everything. And I ended up in one of the sections where the concepts of faith in the wetting of filaments fought with each other in one camp, and in the other, those who have the true knowledge that their filaments are never moistened.
At that moment I could not decide which camp to list myself in, on the one hand, I was too young for a 3D printer, and on the other hand, I used the first PC already in 1985, and therefore probably already old.
Therefore, I decided whether the filament will be moistened or not - it is not known, but it will be useful to store it in a dry place. And since it’s not enough to simply store it, it must also be used for printing, I decided to make a Dry Box for this.
The most common variants of such Dry Boxes looked something like this
Therefore, mine did not go far from this, it was bought at Leroy Merlin.
Its size (along the bottom, it is smaller) w*d*h 207*300*270mm. I put a bar in the middle, on which 3 FDPlast coils hung (they are the "thickest"). I then used it for three months. Such a solution was VERY inconvenient for me, firstly, the coils on the rod, when jerking, began to unwind and drop the threads of the filament, and secondly, it was gimmicky to CHANGE the coils, pull out all these three coils, remove two, replace one, put it in place, while I wanted to have three or four hands, but with two coils fell and ran away.
I dismantled this structure, now it contains storage, but it looks like this.

The next Dry Box was made from an Ikea container, SAMLA, 39x28x28 cm/22l, real size 214*298*265mm on the bottom. Cover SAMLA for the container 11/22 l, transparent. I think this container is very convenient. I will lay out the model of the stand for the coils with us, the aluminum pipe is 20mm from Leroy. Well, now I don't think the boxing for three coils is optimal either. I think each coil should be in its own box, with a stand and a Teflon tube outlet. For me, this is the best option - and the coil is in the box, and sealed, and you can remove it, and get it for printing is not a problem.
