I've been selling a 3.5" to 2.5" drive spacer for the PS2 for a while now for those using smaller hard drives or solid state drives. However, I've had a couple requests to make a 3.5" drive sled. I wasn't even aware it was a thing, but the original network adapters had a steel sled that the hard drive would mount to. The tricky part is to make it out of plastic... So, here is my 5thish print. Its still may need a little massaging, but it seems to work pretty nice in my own testing on my PS2 fats that I have kicking around.
The sled has some nubs that snap into the hard drive screw holes. Since its plastic, I could not print it thin enough and also have it strong enough to include screws. However, it clips in nicely, and its pinched by the sides of the PS2 enclosure, so it holds quite nicely.
It snaps right on to a 3.5" drive.
Then, you can just slide the whole assembly into the back of the PS2 and the side tabs stop it from going in too far.
I'll likely have these up for sale in the not too distant future. I'd love to hear your thoughts and if you're at all interested in this idea.

You should try to find some Carbon/PLA to print with. It's a little more expensive and you must use a steel nozzle, but makes all your prints much stronger, and you can print those thinner pieces no problem. ABS is an option too, but it's tough to work with, needs a heated enclosure, and vented outside, but Carbon/PLA prints normal just like PLA. Nice job though.

Thanks for the suggestion! Actually, I'm very happy with how it turned out. It really doesn't need to be stronger. Once it is inside the enclosure its all sandwiched together and it holds together really well. I wasn't sure about this simply because the original was metal, but the plastic is more than adequate for holding a HDD in place. You can literally shake the PS2 (I tried) and the HDD will not move at all.

Am I missing something? I have a 2 TB HDD on a network adapter and I've never had issues with the drive going in too far, if anything the 3. 5 I have is too big as it doesnt allow the network adapter to seat flush against the console or be screwed in (its an official adapter) so i have this weird slanted gap near the bottom of it. But it goes in enough that it connects and works.

The original accessory included a 40GB hard drive, network adapter and caddy/cage. They are pretty rare these days and everyone just slots the bare drive in, but you could see how over time it might cause strain on the ports if there is any wiggle room.

I see what you're saying. Maybe this drive (barracuda) just has a slightly larger overall form as it fits in very nicely and as I stated is actually just a hair to long.

Would it be possible to make trays that connected to the adapter keeping the hard drive and adapter as one unit? I have 2 2TB Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM008 drives and 2 sata ps2 hdd adapters. I would like to essentialy make it like a "hot swap" just pull the adapter and the hdd and swap another one in, but have the ports still tightly plugged into the hdd to reduce the chance of damage.

It may be possible, but I'm not sure it would work that great. There just isn't that much room for material. But, if you get some people together who would be interested in that I will look into it.

Ill ask some of my retro friends if anyone would be interested in something like that. Currently i was thinking of just cutting away the screw anchors in the console and putting a small nut or something for the adapter to screw into instead. Was just wondering if there might be a better way.

Sorry, but I am not going to share the model or the printing files. I've been 3d printing stuff for about a decade now. I've shared files in the past I eventually find people selling my own product somewhere, even when they promise not to. This has happened multiple times over the years and so I just don't share files anymore.

my story / 3D printers, machine tools and accessories / iXBT Live
My computer case has only two HDD/SSD slots. I have four disks. Three SSD disks I was able to place it quite easily in a basket for one 3.5 HDD, using parts printed on a 3D printer. Below I will tell you what I did. I understand that this article will be interesting not to everyone, but I decided to share this life hack, so to speak, and at the same time show What are the benefits of a 3D printer in everyday life?
Recently, my computer is housed in a Hiper HG302 Shadow case, here I talked about it: Moving to a new computer case using the Hiper HG302 Shadow as an example.
And everything would be fine, but two slots for installing SSD / HDD is real few. I have 4 SSDs in my system and the fifth one lies, although they are small in volume, but how they say there is never too much space.
In the case review, I talked about how I was able to install three SSDs. to me I needed a special bar, on which I screwed two SSDs on both sides. This is what it looked like:
But then I bought myself another SSD. I talked about it here: GeiL Zenith Z3 512 GB SSD review: high quality and budget.
And I decided that all four disks should be left in the system. You can, of course, just throw them into the niche of the system unit. But it's not very aesthetically pleasing. So I decided that I needed some fasteners. I got on the thingverse and found there such a simple model
By the way, I also looked to the side like this:
But it was not clear how to place it in the basket for disks, so I settled on the first option. Printed four identical parts:
Printed with a layer of 0.2mm, each part is printed on my printer 20 minutes.
Now you need to get the basket from the system unit. Here it is:
As you can see, it is designed for only two hard drives. One placed inside the basket, the second is screwed on top.
Removed from the basket SSD fastened to the printed parts.
Three disks for files placed inside the compartment, and the fourth, on which I have installed the system, screwed on top of the basket. At the same time, he took into account that you need to have gaps between the case so that you can insert a SATA cable without problems:
Then I put the basket inside the system unit and connected wires:
At the same time, naturally, I twisted the screws several times, so how at first I placed the disks on the wrong side ( with connectors back ), twisted it a second time, because I did not take into account the gap between the basket and the body. Unable to insert SATA cable ( in the photo above, the disks are located upside down, exactly as it should be, so that in them it was convenient to insert wires ). After installation, I fixed all the wires on the screeds, did cable management so to speak.
As a result, with the help of a 3D printer and an hour and a half spent for printing and 20 minutes for assembly and reassembly, I got a convenient location already three SSDs in a bay for one 3.5 HDD. Everything is securely fixed, does not dangle, does not stagger, does not rattle. Of course, this is not visible inside the case, but my inner perfectionist is satisfied.
With this article, I do not encourage everyone to run after 3D printers or similar adapters. Just told me how 3D was useful to me home printer. It was not necessary to do all this, but if I can, why not not yes?
