Dutch Triple Shot Flintlock Pistol0001

On one of the weapons sites I found an article that, I think, will be of interest to employees.

Attempts to manufacture repeating flintlock weapons often led to designs that were ahead of their time.

This three shot pistol is nothing more than a prototype revolver. The master decided to combine three chambers with charges in one pistol, which rotate around a single axis. The axis is fixed in the frame of the gun.

Flintlock divided into two parts. The trigger mechanism, hammer, sear with a mainspring are in the frame of the pistol, fixed in the box. A powder shelf with a lid, a flint and a flint spring is installed on each chamber with a charge.

The fold spring has a simplified design, not a V-shape, but a flat one.

The head of the trigger clamp screw has a round through hole. Charging chambers of octagonal section are connected into a single charging unit. The length of the charging chambers is 89 mm. The breech of the charging block is in the form of a disk and is attached to a disk mounted in the frame of the pistol, the prototype of the breech. The rotation of the charging unit is carried out manually.

The handguard is attached to the barrel with studs. At the bottom of the forearm there is a channel for placing a ramrod. The ramrod is located in this channel and passes through two brass ramrod guide rings.

The ramrod has a horn tip on one side and a metal tip on the other. Round pistol barrel, smoothbore, 254 mm long, barrel caliber 17 mm. The non-specialized length of the pistol is 533 mm.

In front of the gun, in front of the charging block, there is a triangular iron plate with holes opposite each chamber. The wooden part of the pistol under the barrel (handguard) has a shape that does not interfere with the free flight of bullets in case of abnormal simultaneous ignition of charges in all three chambers of the charging unit. This ensures the safety of the shooter when handling weapons.

The handle is made of walnut wood and painted with dark brown lacquer. The shank of the handle is set in a brass tip with long side beams. the base and the lock face of the trigger have a slotted through thread.

On the surface of the keyplate there is an engraving in the form of mythical ornaments and plant characters. Along the contour of the trigger on the keyboard there is a marking test: "FRIDK ... MICHEL / RUCKS is not strong ..." (unfortunately, not all letters are visible).

There is an engraving in the form of a floral ornament on the covers and the surface of the trigger of the powder shelves. The trigger guard is made up of two parts. The front part acts as a charging block locking lever to prevent spontaneous rotation of the charging block.

The back of the trigger guard has an extended "tail" that reinforces the handle.

The sights of the flintlock three-shot pistol are a rectangular metal rear sight and a round brass front sight.

The pistol was probably made in Holland, despite the fact that according to the second version it is of Belgian origin. The approximate price of this pistol in the antique firearms market is 12-18 thousand dollars.
