Abbreviation for Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene is the name of a wear resistant material made from fossil fuels. It's funny that this is the material that LEGO® was made from before their recent move to a more biodegradable and sustainable plastic. ABS filament, in addition to being non-biodegradable, is a fossil fuel derivative that is difficult to print with and causes a burning smell. However, it is still a popular choice. This is because it is affordable, durable, strong and easy to sand. nine0003
- Axle
When a machinist talks about an axle, he is referring to how the model is built and how the printer will move. There are three main axes to consider; X, Y, and Z. The X axis is movement from left to right. The Y axis is forward and backward movement. The Z axis is up and down movement. Essentially, G-code describes every tiny movement of the extruder and carriage of a 3D printer in separate lines of code.

While we might say that some terms may be misunderstood depending on the context, this is not one of them. Whether it's a nozzle that emits fuel, a pipeline nozzle that releases icing, or a 3D printing nozzle that extrudes filament, a nozzle is a nozzle.
- PLA
PLA stands for polylactic acid and is a renewable and biodegradable plastic derived from sustainable sources such as corn starch or sugar cane. Unlike ABS filament, the PLA 3D extrusion printing process produces a slightly sweet smell and is easy to use. However, it is a little harder to get hold of and is prone to clogging the extruder due to its softer nature. nine0003

RepRap is an online community offering open source 3D printing software. 1. Digital Light Projector (DLP)
The digital light projector 3D printing process is a technique developed in 1987 by Texas Instruments. Known for their contributions to the development of calculators and projectors, they use digital light to cure photoreactive polymers. The machine has a tank filled with resin, as well as a digital light source using the same micromirror used in phones. And wherever the computer is told to shine, the light hardens the resin and creates a 3D object by layering the resin. nine0003
The advantage of using a DLP printer is that the entire layer can be cured at the same time, which means there is much less chance of layer mismatches. It also means that projects that would take 4 hours to 3D print on an SLA printer will only take 30 minutes on a DLP printer.
The disadvantages of DLP will be size, resolution and finish. Since digital light is needed for this machine, it makes the body bigger. In addition, due to the buildup of resin, a rectangular surface may be formed, which must be sanded. nine0003
2. Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM)
Also known as FFF (Fused Filament Fabrication), this is the most popular 3D printing process. Because stereolithography involves curing a liquid resin with a flash of ultraviolet light, it can create an entire surface at once. And, like DLP printing, it will create a smoother base without loose joints. In addition, it is much more suitable for small and highly detailed objects. However, if you choose this route, you should be aware that resin is not as structurally strong as filament, so it can often break down or be unsuitable for mechanical processes. Also, the costs and time to print can be much higher than those associated with the FDM 3D printing process. nine0003
