Somos® NeXt is a highly durable stereolithography material which produces very accurate parts with high feature resolution.

This material is ideal for the production of tough, complex parts that also exhibit excellent moisture and thermal resistance. Somos® NeXt has a look and feel that is almost indistinguishable from finished traditional thermoplastics, making it perfect for building parts and prototypes for functional testing applications — resulting in time, money and material savings during product development.

What is Stereolithography?

Stereolithography (SL/SLA) was the world’s first 3D printing technology, and it remains a great option for highly detailed prototypes that require tight tolerances and smooth surfaces. It uses a UV laser to cure and solidify fine layers of photopolymer in an open vat.

Why choose SLA?

SLA is great for prototyping parts that will ultimately be painted or coated because the models can be finished using the same materials and processes as the end product. Transparent, heat resistant and moisture resistant materials are also attractive for medical, automotive and other prototypes that call for flow visualization, light transmittance or thermostability.

SLA benefits

Product designers opt for SL models when a quick build time is crucial, and they can invest time and resources into additional finishing processes. SL can also produce master patterns for urethane casting, and investment casting patterns that are used to produce metal parts for aerospace, automotive, power generation and medical applications.

    Description

    Photopolymers for 3D printing

    Somos photopolymer resins are designed for 3D printing, which is becoming increasingly popular in various manufacturing industries. They are used for stereolithographic production of models, they are distinguished by high strength and accuracy during operation. Models made from this material are obtained in their properties similar to thermoplastics, are resistant to impacts, are characterized by high rigidity and have a smooth surface.

    Resin is used in aircraft construction, automotive industry, in the production of electrical appliances and household products. It is also suitable for making snap-on structures, wheels, various connectors, etc.

    The illumination wavelength for this polymer is 355 nm. This wavelength is used by lasers in professional stereolithography systems, so the polymer is not suitable for desktop printers.

    Somos ProtoGen 18920 from DSM is a liquid photopolymer resin for 3D printing, similar in properties to ABS plastics and allows you to create products of any complexity for a wide range of applications.

    Somos ProtoGen Resin is the first stereolithography resin that changes its properties depending on the exposure settings of the 3D printer.
