POSEIDON-Gen2 | Filament Innovations

The second generation POSEIDON is years of hard work, constant research and development, and the latest technology; all rolled into one of the most advanced 3D Printers on the market. The POSEIDON Gen2 was designed to be the large-scale manufacturing workhorse that we always wanted to see from a larger-scale 3D Printer. In designing this printer, we asked ourselves, how can we make such a machine that delivers on the expectations of our clients, but yet has all the convenience features they have not thought of? That question is what led us to the design, fabrication, and bringing to market the second-generation POSEIDON.

There are many features and selling points to our new POSEIDON, (laid out below in detail), but here are some of the key points to mention. There was no compomise to the build area, coming in at a massive 1400mm (X), 1000mm (Y), and 1000mm (Z). The extrusion system uses two different methods, pellet (FGF) extrusion via the Pulsar and the Typhoon (FDM) high-flow filament system, both from Dyze Design. The Pulsar will allow you to print large scale items quickly, in low to medium detail, using pellets, which is much cheaper than filament. Whereas the Typhoon can be equipped with heatercores ranging from 0.6mm to 2.50mm, and can do everything from high-detail to large-scale parts quickly, depending on the heatercore size used.

Reliability is of utmost concern in all of our machines, and the linear motion system cannot have any compromise. We utilize Leadshine NEMA24s on the Y axis, and a NEMA34, closed-loop stepper motor system to move the large gantry. While pellet extrusion equipment weighs much more than standard 3D Printing equipment, it can quickly wear on the linear motion components both from the weight of the gantry, and dust from the pellets being fed to the Pulsar. All of our ballscrews are reinforced and enclosed to shield the linear motion from pellet dust, that comes from feeding the pellets to the Pulsar. Having an automatic pellet feeding system is critical, so the Venturi from Dyze Design is used to feed pellets at 80-100psi from an external air compressor (customer must provide). Having great bed adhesion is very difficult when a printer is this size, therefore we utilize 1/4" G10/FR4 that is bolted to a piece of 5/8" (yes, 5/8") thick MIC-6 cast aluminum for a truly flat bed.

Convenience features are some of the most immediate concerns that are overlooked in large 3D Printers. For example, bed leveling is beyond critical. Our POSEIDON uses four, independent, Z axis assemblies with motor brakes that can adjust and tilt in real-time to keep the gantry squared with the print area. A toolbox is included for the customer to keep spare parts and tools, and it is a great space to store the included iPad for easy machine monitoring via a Wifi connection. A 15 gallon on board roto-molded tank is also included for easy pellet storage and feeding via the Venturi pellet system.

Price is always one of the biggest factors of any machine, and with that, we price the second Generation POSEIDON with white glove service for a better customer experience.  As a whole, the machine package is priced at $125,000. This includes the machine ($110,000) along with private carrier shipping in the continental 48 States, USA ($10,000) and a Filament Innovations technician on-site for one day of training ($5,000).

As a special note on the required power, the machine needs 220/240VAC, Single Phase, Three Wire connection on a 60amp main breaker. If plugs and outlets are an issue at 60amp, a 50amp breaker, plug, and outlet can be used. Please contact us ahead of time if you prefer the 50amp option and we can walk you through it.

Clotho Filaments - this must be pronounced correctly!

In Victor Pelevin's cult novel of the 2000s "Generation P" there was an interesting saying: Every brand has its own legend!

And that's right. What is Coca-Cola without the secret formula in an equally mysterious safe, or Newton without the famous apple? Feel the difference? That's right, on the one hand, mythology and fascinating history, and on the other, insipid facts. Nobody likes bland facts! We need magic that will emphasize the unique essence.

Imprint impersonates its products with the mythical heroes of Ancient Greece. The analogies are clear: the Hercules 3D printer (strength, speed and reliability) and the 3D printing glue Iolaus (the legendary assistant of Hercules in his exploits) seem to hint.

The brand name Clotho Filament was no exception, the brand line of which was called Clotho ABS. And the name of the series is no coincidence.

.

Remember the most skillful gods of the Greek pantheon. The supreme lord Zeus the Thunderer, Poseidon - the god of the seas and oceans, Hades - the ruler of the underworld. The deities are powerful and brutal. But!

Even the toughest god had his own short "leash" - fate. The goddesses of fate - moira could limit the freedom of actions even of the supreme gods. Zeus himself could not resist this force.

The first of the moiras, and there were 3 of them in total - Clotho. The original is written Κλωθώ, translated into Russian - "Spinner". Literally she who creates the yarn of life. According to legend, she wove the thread of fate from everything that was in the world and for everything that was in the world. Some kind of foremother of additive technologies! According to the canon, she looked like this0006

Moirai in action: Kloto with a spinning wheel (left). Atropa - an inevitable fate (in the center). Lahesa determines fate (right).

Thread of fate

and still a cool analogy with Clotho ABS, don't you find?

The thread for the fate of the universe is an indestructible foundation. Imprinta brought the legend to life perfectly. Recall that Clotho ABS contains fiberglass and its content is 13%. This is the best indicator among filaments, which guarantees the strength of printed products.

And that's a whole percentage more than the nearest competitor - ABS Titan GF 12.

Hmm! But in the name of the opponent there is also a reference to Greek mythology - the titans. And even here there were no coincidences.

According to legend, a war for dominance broke out between them and the Olympian gods - gigantomachy (titanomachy). Without going into details, the titans lost this fight. For it was Clotho who wove the victory to Zeus. No hints, just facts!

But seriously, comparative tests of two filaments revealed a confident dominance of Clotho ABS over ABS Titan GF 12:

  • In terms of tensile strength - by 26%;
  • Interlaminar tensile strength - by 35%;
  • Glass fiber content - 13% vs. 12%;
  • Colour: 4 colors of Clotho ABS versus 1 for ABS Titan.

In general, the titan lost. Again. History repeats itself.

And after that you will still prove that the myth does not reflect reality and the name is just a set of letters?

A bit of articulation, or whatever it is

The name Clotho Filaments is slandered online. There are vague KlotO, unfaithful Kloso, incomprehensible Klovo, and so on.

Dear community, the only correct option is Kloto. Emphasis on the first letter O.

Closed the topic.

Competition - Clotho Filaments for Clotho

And now the reward for the patient. Imprinta has already been immortalized by the Hercules 3D printer in a 2-meter figure of a Greek demigod as part of the 3Dtoday Fest event. The experience turned out to be interesting.

Let the tradition continue!

Attention, competition. Now it's time to create a symbolic expression of the Clotho Filaments brand. You have already seen the canonical image of this goddess. Do you know the origin of the name? Show your imagination. Show the world a modern vision of an ancient myth.

No one and nothing limits your interpretation of the image of Clotho.

Make up a short story and answer the question why it looks the way it does.

Reward? 100% useful - 10 kg of Clotho ABS filaments.
