LCD SLA motherboard series

Compared with FDM technology, LCD SLA technology is favored by the market due to an order of magnitude improvement in accuracy, but the market coverage rate is far inferior to FDM technology. Of course, there are various factors such as high cost, few solutions, and consumable limitations. To this end, MKS independently developed the MKS DLP motherboard and its supporting software to advance the development of LCD SLA 3D printing in terms of cost and solution.

MKS Gen V1.

2 Control Board

The MKS Gen V1.2 Control Board is designed to upgrade 3D printer control.
The control board is based on a popular solution - a combination of the Arduino Mega 2560 board and the Ramps 1.4 expansion board, widely used for RepRap project printers.

The board is equipped with an 8-bit ATmega2560 microcontroller, has 5 slots for connecting stepper motor drivers, the ability to connect 12-24 V power supply. The MKS GEN 1.2 board supports all Arduino firmware, the installation of which takes place in a similar manner.

Benefits of the MKS Gen v1.2 board

  • Instead of a bundle of two boards (Arduino + RAMPS), we have one neat control board.
  • Possibility to connect 24V power supply.
  • More powerful MOSFETs than Ramps 1.4.
  • Supports A4988, Drv8825 stepper motor drivers.
  • LCD display is connected directly to the board without using an additional shield.

MKS GEN V1. 2 board specifications
ATmega2560 8 bit microcontroller
Supply voltage 12 - 24 V
Possibility to connect up to 5 stepper motor drivers with easy microstep adjustment (microswitches). 3 stepper motors on the X, Y, Z axis and 2 extruders E0, E1
Support for basic stepper drivers A4988, DRV8825, TMC2100, LV8729
Ability to connect up to 3 thermistors (for example, 1 for the heating table, 2 for the first extruder, 3 for the second extruder)
Six 3-pin connectors for limit switches Xmin / Xmax / Ymin / Ymax / Zmin / Zmax
The presence of a connector for LCD displays + SD cards
Additional pins for tying a 3D printer: AUX-1, AUX-2 (same as on Ramps 1.4)
4 powerful MOSFETs for power supply table heating, two extruders and fan

MKS GEN V1.2 board connection

Stepper motor drivers connection

To control stepper motors, you need to install one driver for each axis and one driver for the extruder.

Before installing the stepper motor drivers, you need to set the microstep driver. To set the driver microstep, use jumpers (jumpers).

The microstepping jumpers on the MKS GEN V1.2 board are located under the stepper drivers. In total, a maximum of three jumpers can be installed for each driver. Depending on how many and in what order you put them in, which step is set will be determined.

If you are using an A4988 stepper motor driver with a minimum micro step of 1/16, then the jumper location is taken from the table:

Jumper (Yes / No) step size ), so before installing drivers, install all jumpers for all drivers!

The driver is installed strictly in one position - with a trimmer resistor in the opposite direction from the power connector (the marking of the driver's legs must match the marking on the board). Radiators must not touch the legs of the trimmer!

The board has 5 connectors for connecting stepper motors and, accordingly, 5 connectors for drivers. Each axis is signed (X, Y, Z, E0, E1), which allows you to accurately connect to the appropriate connector.

Limit switches connection

The MKS GEN V1.2 board has six connectors for connecting limit switches, their order is as follows: X min, X max, Y min, Y max, Z min, Z max. When connecting the limit switches, it is necessary to observe the polarity.

Please note! When connecting limit switches, the most important thing is not to confuse the pins, that is, it is necessary to determine on the limit switch which of the three wires is responsible for "Signal", "-" and "+" and connect to the corresponding pins on the GEN board. If you confuse, then it is likely that when the limit switch is triggered, the board will fail.

Typically, limit switches are marked as follows:

green "Signal"
black "-"
red color "+"

Connection of thermistors

The MKS GEN V1.2 board has connectors for 3 thermistors.
