Hi Memoir 44 fans, i have only recently discovered the joys of a quick war game. I have played Axis and Allies for many years, while it is a great game(along with its many variations) it is a game that requires a full day. Have had my Mem44 set sitting on the shelf for over a year, had a recent break from work so i decided to open the box. This is wonderful to have a game in 15 to 20 minutes, i need to get more game buddies now… Not willing to just play with plain little men and tanks i slapped some paint on and have also recently acquired a 3d printer. Adds a little extra flavor.

Unfortunately for me, i am a farmer so normally don’t have much free time (holidays are wonderful) so finding this game and its easy rules is great. It would be so much better if i always had a willing partner or friend to play against, most of my games are solo. Still, i am enjoying it, christmas is soon so i might be able to get some visitors to play against.

Hey, very nice job on the paint. I’ll paint my M44 some day. Im thinking in adding some 3rd party minis for overlord too.

As for people to play with, yes it’s always a challenge. But don’t stop introducing people to the game. I’ve had people who I never thought would like it, enjoy it. Now I have a group of friends asking me to play and I can’t because exams!

Again very nice job customizing your Memoir 44!

Welcome to the Forum Dave!

They all look great! Boy do I wish I could have someone paint my minis! I have 2 base games and 2 copies of mediterranean and the eastern front, I simply would not be able to paint all of these. I’d rather play with them than paint them, and I’ve not had that much time for playing!

In any case, this is an impressive collection, I bet it looks even better playing with these than the pictures show.

Thanks for the website link! Im currently gathering materials for customised terrain (your 3d print forrest look really good) , and to begin painting my armies. Id scanned a bit for decals, but a little overwhelmed online.
I know its a bit of an ask, but do you still know which specific decal packs you ordered, the website has very little information on sizes.

Once upon a time I had an Ultimaker 2 Go review. After this cute printer, which easily fit on the windowsill and printed small things, I wanted to have one for myself.

But the price for 'scrubbing' turned out to be higher and I took the Ultimaker 2 extended clone with all the consequences. It differs from Go with an ordinary table, with heating 225 * 225 versus 120 * 120 for Go, print height - 300 mm versus 120 for Go. The rest is similar. The Ultimaker has a well-made head, which is installed on all Ultimaker 2 printers (this is both the regular version and extended and go). It consists of 3 plates, a heating cube, a steel sleeve and a PTFE insulator.

The plates are screwed together. The sleeve is screwed onto the cube and a fluoroplastic insulator is inserted inside. To press the insulator in the first versions of the head, a spring was used.

But then, after many requests to technical support, that the plastic, with a slight clogging of the nozzle, squeezes the insulator and flows between it and the heating cube, we decided to use a tube instead of a spring.

In the photo above - the head of my clone with my modifications, which I will tell you about. Initially, three plates of clones are made by casting in molds, and, judging by the quality of the thread, it is also cast. And since the thread pitch is small and the fluidity of the metal is small, then the thread turns out to be, to put it mildly, nasty. In my case, after a couple of disassembly of the head, the turns refused to hold the screws. And I ordered the plate to be milled according to my drawing. I redid the drawing, because. there was no cutter with a diameter of 2 mm, I redrawn it under 3 mm. And at the same time increased the places with threads.

In the original, all plates are milled.

Next, I collected my head and set to print.

But if everything was so simple - I would not describe my experience of improvements. The problem that all Ultimaker 2s with such a head have is that after some time, the fluoroplastic burns and degrades at the point of contact between the fluoroplastic and the heating cube. If there is a spring, the solution is simple - cut off the soot and put it back. In the case of a tube, after cutting, a backlash will appear, which can be easily filled with plastic. And we'll get a bottleneck. An unpleasant dilemma.

No, the standard solution remains, this is cutting the insulator and twisting the bushing through the radial holes. For by default, the sleeve is not screwed up to the end. But, perhaps, in the original, the thread was made according to a good accuracy class and does not play, in my case the plastic began to leak. Therefore, it was decided to grind the sleeve without extra holes and screw it all the way into the cube.

But the problem with the impossibility of trimming the insulator remained, and it was necessary to check the absence of play in the insulator after changing the insulator. Over time, 5 burnt bushings accumulated from 2 printers.

I really didn't want to throw it away. So I decided to make a threaded sleeve. And screw the insulator into it already. As it wears, the insulator will be cut and twisted until it stops. The thread on the cube and the sleeve is M6 * 0.75, the pitch is small, and the probability of unscrewing is scanty due to the small angle of the turn.

Turned new bushings with full length threads, bought a die and started peeling. The result suits, now there is no need for classic spacers, and for the sake of formality, you can put a spring.

In addition, the head fan was replaced. In the clones there are carlsons from GDStime, not very good quality, but powerful. They like to die after half a year of active work. Delivered Sunon, yes more powerfully. Of the 25 mm coolers, 25*25*15 mm turned out to be the most powerful.

They protrude a little beyond the dimensions of the head, but do not interfere with anything.

Now a rather sore subject for Ultimaker 2 owners. Bearings in the head. Tiger ult bushes were purchased. There are bronze oil-filled bushings in an aluminum case. Fashionable, quiet, beautiful. But backlash. Although they unfold with one scan in size, the selection so that there is no backlash is a dreary business.

Starts to hang out after six months. Decided to experiment. I bought bushings from SKF and machined the body. It sits / works perfectly, but very accurate processing of the sleeve is very difficult, the hole will sag a little - we get a backlash.

As a result, I bought ball bearings in technobering, they are a little louder than bushings, but do not play. Good branded ball bearings work many times quieter than foreign ones. I recommend.

The next replacement is fittings.

Bought and installed all-metal. Cheap Chinese fittings broke quickly. Changed every six months. Also, the collet is fixed in the body and cut off the tube as the head moves. In metal collets, the collet has the ability to rotate with the tube in the body and does not cut off the tube. Very comfortably. It costs a little more, but the quality is higher.

Extruder - Bondtech gears, bunch of plastic and 1:2.5 belt drive. There were many versions, the result was the most compact and easy to assemble / disassemble / maintain.
