What is 3D Printing?
How to 3D print at McGill
Pre-printing process
- Sign up for and successfully complete one of the 3D printing workshops, or email [email protected] to schedule an individual training session.
- Submit a booking request for the 3D printer you would like to use, and once your request has been approved you are ready to print.
Printing process
- At your designated printing time, check the printer you have booked for the following:
- Is there is a completed job left in the printer? If so, please carefully remove it and place it underneath the desk.
- Is there plastic loaded in the printer? If yes and it is the color you want to use, go to the next step. If there is no plastic or it is not the color you want, contact [email protected] or an on-duty 3D printing peer tutor. Note: Only select colours are available (white, black, blue, red, orange, green, yellow, silver and transparent). If you would like to print with other colours please contact [email protected] for additional information.
- Once the printer is set up, use your own device or the computer in the 3D printing area to use Cura to print your model.
- Take note of when your print will be completed, so that you can plan to return and pick it up.

Alexander Iolas Collector's Refuge • Interior+Design
Design
An imaginary refuge for the legendary collector and gallery owner Alexander Iolas (1907-1987) was created by Greek students. The polyvalent personality of Iolas is vividly conveyed in the installation "Shelter of Iolas" at MOMUS - Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki, Greece.
Related: Venice Art Biennale: Fantastic Tunnel
This interactive space is a hybrid between archive, boudoir, shelter. The installation was conceived by architect Sophia Visoviti in collaboration with students from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Thessaly and the School of Fine and Applied Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Iolas, the man who discovered Andy Warhol, was a gallery owner and collector, merchant and intellectual. A Greek-American homosexual who died in 1987 from AIDS, his name was almost forgotten or only mentioned in connection with the scandalous details of his life. The collection of Iolas was partly taken out, partly looted, and the golden palace-museum in the Athenian district of Agia Paraskevi was devastated.
Alexander Iolas had many talents, and most importantly - taste and outstanding commercial abilities. Iolas could become an outstanding dancer: he danced with Balanchine, on world ballet stages, worked in the troupe of Kira Nijinska.
In 1944, Iolas saw a painting by De Chirico, which he bought for an astronomical sum of $2,000 at the time. In the same year, he opened his first Hugo Gallery on 55th Avenue in New York. If Costakis introduced the Russian avant-garde to the world, then Iolas is considered the patron of the surrealists, pop art and Andy Warhol, whose very first exhibition he organized in 1953.
