Crowdfunded 3d printer

5 Most Successful 3D Printer Crowdfunding Projects of All-Time - 3DPrint.com

Two of the most disruptive ideas within the Internet/Technology arena have combined forces to deliver what may eventually become huge drivers of innovation, change, and economic progress.  What are they?  3D printing and crowdfunding.  In ways, both breakout markets have some key similarities.  They both allow the free market to work in extremely efficient ways, empowering the bottom 99% to compete with the top 1%, and allowing everyday people like you and I to achieve things which were not even imaginable  a decade ago.

In the past 18 months, Kickstarter, the world’s leading rewards based crowdfunding platform, has seen an explosion in interest for 3D printers. Over that time we have seen dozens of 3D printers launch on the platform, looking to raise anywhere from $25,000 to $100,000.  Many projects never meet their goals, and get pushed to the wayside, however dozens have met, or exceeded their goals, creating the foundation for new 3D printer manufacturers.  Here are 5 of the most successful 3D printers to get fully funded on Kickstarter in the past 18 months, and just how successful their Kickstarter campaigns were.

#1  FORM 1: An affordable, professional 3D printer
Raised a Total of $2,945,885  of the $100,000 goal from 2,068 different backers
This was an affordable, high resolution 3D printer. The base package was $2299 on Kickstarter.

#2 The Buccaneer® – The 3D Printer that Everyone can use!
Raised a Total of $1,438,765 of $100,000 goal from 3520 backers
This printer was produced to allow almost anyone to get one in their hands. The base package was just $297 on Kickstarter

#3 RigidBot 3D Printer
Raised a Total of $1,092,098 of $31,500 goal from 11952 backers
This was a sturdy customizable 3D printer that could easily be used by the novice user. The base package was only $299 on Kickstarter

#4 Printrbot: Your First 3D Printer (Printrbot Forum)
Raised a Total of $830,827 of $25,000 goal from 1808 backers
This was a desktop 3D printer kit that you had to build. Build time was a couple of hours. The bare bone kit started at just $199 on Kickstarter

#5 The Peachy Printer (Peachy Forum)
Raised a Total of $651,091 CAD of $50,000 goal from 4420 backers
This was billed as the cheapest 3D printer on the market at just $100 on Kickstarter

Notice that the pricing on most of these 3D printers are well under the prices of most retail printers on the market today.  What crowdfunding is doing is creating a more competitive marketplace, driving down prices in a significant way.  Four of the five printers listed above were being pre-sold for under $300.  If you look at the rest of the consumer based 3D printer market, dominated by the large corporations like Stratasys, and 3D Systems, these printers are priced at about a 60-80% discount.  What this does is put 3D printers in the hands of anyone who can afford to buy a smartphone.  This is huge, as it will rapidly expand the consumer market within the next 12-24 months.

Most successful crowdfunding: 3D printer raised $28 million

3DNews Technologies and IT market. News Most Successful Crowdfunding: 3D Printer ...

Until recently, the most successful crowdfunding project (in the field of gadgets) was the Pebble Time watch. In one month, the developers managed to raise about $20.3 million on Kickstarter. But now the record holder is a laser 3D printer from Glowforge, which has completed its crowdfunding journey at over $28 million!

Glowforge

The founders of the company did not expect such a success. According to Glowforge CEO Dan Shapiro, it was enough to raise $100,000 to place an order at the factory. According to the most optimistic forecasts, the developers hoped to raise about a million dollars. But the fact that they managed to break the record came as a surprise to everyone. A small start-up company with only 14 employees, in a short time turned into a Kickstarter star and “lit up” on the cover of many famous magazines.

Glowforge

Unique printer able to work with leather, synthetic fibres, a variety of fabrics, cardboard, paper and a dozen other materials (the promotional video even shows how the printer automatically recognizes that it is in front of a MacBook Air 13 and decorates its surface ). He knows how to cut figures of any shape, as well as engrave. The possibilities of professional designers are limited only by their imagination. Models for the printer can be designed in Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or a CAD system. If the user is not a designer, then a large catalog of ready-made solutions is offered for him.

In this case, many words are not needed. It is enough to watch the video to evaluate the possibilities of new items. Enjoy.

Two versions will be offered - Glowforge Basic and Pro, priced at $4,000 and $8,000 respectively (prices will be half that for those who pre-order). The base model can handle 12" x 20" materials. And the Pro version allows you to print on ribbons of unlimited length with a width of up to 20 inches. Printer deliveries for early customers will start in the first half of 2016. It remains to be hoped that the finished device will indeed be of high quality and will meet expectations. By the way, Sam Machkonech, editor of the authoritative publication Ars Technika, visited the Glowforge office. Initially, the journalist was skeptical, but the capabilities of the prototype, which is not just drawn on paper, but already really knows how to do something, impressed him.

China's first smart 3D printer, AOD Artist, developed by AOD 3D Printing Ltd, is said to have raised 1.2 million yuan ($195,000) in less than three hours last night. past Sunday.

The day before yesterday, around 9 pm yesterday, Yuan Tawei, the founder of AOD 3D Printing, which operates under one of China's top-ranked universities, Tsinghua University, posted a message on the WeChat platform (a kind of Whatsapp in China) that the AOD 3D project Printing is up for crowdfunding. And in just three hours, the company raised 1.2 million yuan. By Monday morning, the project had raised more than 3 million yuan.

The team has developed a set of four Intelligent Systems for AOD Artist, ranging from an Android-based operating system to a document management system, as well as a 3D printing system and a material cost control system. The printer is equipped with an intuitive 6-inch touch screen located directly on the printer body.

AOD Smart Cloud, a cloud-based storage platform, has been designed specifically for file storage, sharing and remote printing. The AAOD Smart Traveler system includes auto detection and auto filament feed system.

In addition, the dedicated AOD Smart Printer management software for the AOD Artist printer allows you to convert digital 3D models directly into print commands with just one click. The program divides the model into parts, calculates the trajectories to fill them, and calculates the amount of material needed for 3D printing. All of this makes 3D printing as easy and convenient as possible.
