Asiga - 3D Printer Manufacturer Review
The Asiga brand enjoys an excellent reputation in 3D printers, software and supplies. Its products are widely and successfully used in dentistry, audiology, jewelry and manufacturing. Brand devices are primarily focused on professional use; certain experience and skills are required to successfully work with them. In this article, the characteristic features of Asiga technology will be considered and the company's prospects for the near future will be assessed.
Who is Asiga?
Asiga has been on the 3D printing market since 2011. It is headquartered in Australia with additional offices in Germany and the US.
The company made a name for itself with the world's first DLP LED 3D printer. This moment was a turning point for the popularization of stereolithographic 3D printing technology.
In 2012, Asiga received the Best New Technology Award at the prestigious MJSA International Jewelry Competition for the Pico and Pro platforms. At the moment, the company's products are sold through resellers in 80 countries around the world and receive consistently positive feedback from users and industry professionals.
Asiga 3D printers
The brand currently produces two lines of printing devices:
- MAX Series. These are compact desktop printers that provide high-precision printing and are ready for long, intensive use.
- Pro 4K. Larger units for professional use, designed to be installed on the floor.
Previously, its range also included Pico and Freeform Pro models, but now they are no longer presented on the official website of the developer.
All printers are DLP-enabled and capable of Wi-Fi, wireless, or Ethernet connectivity. They print approximately the following products:
Asiga MAX / MAX UV
This model is positioned as an advanced laboratory printer that provides maximum performance with compact dimensions. The device is optimized for servicing dental and audiology clinics, its printing accuracy is 62 microns. It is particularly suitable for the production of dental crowns and bridges, dental models, full and partial dentures, auricles and inlays.
CAUTION : The Asiga MAX requires less than 30 seconds to replace the consumable.
The Smart-Positioning-System SPS™ guarantees the most accurate formation of each layer, regardless of the characteristics of the production environment. To optimize the curing process, 385 nm deep UV light is used. XY scattering is reduced, hardening does not become excessive. Those objects that should be transparent look like they are made of water.

The design of the printer is very stylish:
These photos show how compact and easy to handle it is:
Example of dental products printed on Asiga MAX:
MAX X
This model is aimed primarily at jewelers and is characterized by the so-called flexible precision. This means that its resolution can be 27, 35 or 43 microns. A resolution of 27 µm is optimal for creating microfluidic devices. A well-thought-out cooling system prevents the temperature from rising too high during the working process.
Dimensions of the working surface depend on the resolution of the printer and are:
- for MAX X 27: 51. 8 × 29.2 × 75 mm;
- for MAX X 35: 67.2 × 37.8 × 75 mm;
- for MAX X 43: 82.3 × 46.4 × 75 mm.
The equipment is the same as MAX UV. Here is what this model looks like:
The manufacturer emphasizes the highest build quality and thoughtful design of all components: parts:
Asiga Pro 4K
This device uses the latest DLP imaging technology and, compared to other printers in its class, allows you to print the largest models possible. You can control the printing process using a convenient touch screen. Pro 4K is valued for its high speed and accuracy, patented layering processes, custom-made optical system, and special pixel shift technology. This technology reduces the size of pixels, thereby increasing the resolution and accuracy of details, while printing time and surface area remain unchanged.
The dimensions of the working surface of the printer are:
- 176 × 99 × 200 mm - for the Pro 4K 65 model;
- 217 x 122 x 200 mm - for Pro 4K 80 model.
Pro 4K 65 pixel size is 45 µm in 4K mode and 65 µm in native mode. For the Pro 4K 80, the same figures are 56 µm and 80 µm, respectively.
CAUTION : Asiga 3D printers come with a 12 month manufacturer's warranty. Technical support services are free for the entire life of the devices.
This machine is much larger than the MAX series:
software is one of the reasons why Asiga 3D printers are so popular. All brand printers are compatible with the Composer slicer. Its main advantage lies in the thoughtful arrangement of supports. The program accurately calculates the required minimum support and does not waste material on redundant elements, the absence of which will not affect the quality of the print.
This slicer provides the following features:
- load and process several models at the same time;
- maximize the area of use of the work area;
- maximize Z-axis height;
- enjoy flexible and varied settings;
- download the model to the printer remotely;
- Calculate estimated run time and track the progress of the printing process.
Asiga Composer is successfully compatible with Windows, Linux, Apple operating systems. The program will require a 2.4 GHz multi-core processor, 4 GB of free memory and 1 GB of memory to store finished files. It is most convenient to manage models in the slicer using a mouse with three buttons and a scroll wheel.
WARNING : Any software from Asiga is licensed for free updates forever. Programs can be installed on an unlimited number of devices.
A separate program called Stomp is used to compress files. It reduces the size of STL files to 20% of the original. It also allows you to view models in STL files from different angles, rotate them, create mirror images for them. This program is especially useful for sending files by e-mail: the recipient opens the sent file in Stomp and converts it back to STL format, spending a minimum of time and effort.
The slicer can process STL, SLC and Stomp files - all at once, within the same assembly, eliminating the need for the user to convert them. You can switch from one model to another using the tabs at the top of the screen. You can save the results of work in the program in the lightweight Asiga Composer Build (.combld) format or in a ZIP archive.
The Sleece program has been developed for viewing SLC files. In it, you can scan all sections of the file and identify the presence of errors. You can also convert SLC format to STL in one click.
3D e-commerce solution
Asiga also provides users with QuoteServer, a cloud-based solution for automating billing, document generation and order tracking. The client gets access to a full-fledged e-commerce service, on the basis of which he can create a branded website for his own 3D printing office.
QuoteServer allows you to:
- maintain a database of orders;
- check the condition of the components;
- generate documents in accordance with templates;
- calculate the cost of services;
- promptly adapt the cost of services to fluctuations in exchange rates, changes in prices for consumables and other related products;
- send automatic email notifications;
- monitor the delivery of finished orders;
- perform many other useful functions.
The client does not have to spend time and effort on traditional commercial processes - the templates for them are presented ready-made, all that remains is to fill them in with specific names and numbers.
Consumables
All Asiga 3D printers are compatible with consumables from other manufacturers. On the company's website, any user can upload curing profiles for materials from other brands to their account.
Asiga's own line includes the following polymer types:
- for dentistry;
- for jewelry;
- for production.
The range of dental resins consists of 8 items compatible with 385 nm and 405 nm printers. The range includes pink, green, clear, almond and natural tooth enamel resins in the following range: A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, B3. Each polymer has its own purpose: the production of dental models, samples or bases of dentures, dentures themselves, and so on.
CAUTION : Certain polymers require biocompatibility certification in order to be used in certain regions. If you need such a certificate, please contact the manufacturer directly.
In the series of photopolymers for jewelry, there are 5 items, whose price ranges from 175 to $355 per 1 liter. Photopolymer SuperWAX, according to the manufacturer, is the only material in its class that melts exactly like natural wax. All jewelry polymers provide maximum detailing of products and impeccable smoothness of surfaces.
The cost of photopolymers used for production needs ranges from 175 to $265 per 1 liter. The line includes transparent polymer and milky white.
Asiga is a successful and up-and-coming 3D printing brand. Its printers operate using DLP technology, which ensures high speed and accuracy of work, combined with the affordable cost of the devices themselves and consumables for them. All Asiga printers are compatible with third party photopolymers as well as a variety of computer operating systems. They include a convenient slicer Composer, for the needs of commercial users, a cloud service QuoteServer has been developed with the functions of automated document management and price list formation.
