Welcome to the Thomas guide to the best large format 3D printer 2022. Thomas has been connecting North American industrial buyers and suppliers for more than 120 years. When you purchase products through our independent recommendations, we may earn an affiliate commission.
Printing larger items with most at-home or small-scale 3D printers is possible but consists of separately printing different parts of the project and then connecting them all together afterward to make the much larger finished product. In this way, many 3D printing enthusiasts, such as cosplayers, for instance, are able to get past the 3D printing size limitations and use their machines for much larger products than the print bed will allow.

However, purchasing a large-format 3D printer can provide an increase in opportunities for creativity and a decrease in the amount of "putting together" necessary for those larger projects.
Large-Format 3D Printer—Buying Guide
With the average printing bed size of a 3D printer intended for general use being around 150–300mm, if you wanted to scale up the size of your 3D creations, a printer of 350mm–500mm would be ideal, and luckily, there are a few worthy large-scale models available on the market for you to choose from.
Benefits of a Large 3D Printer
Development in 3D printing technology means that we've recently been presented with 3D printed houses, cars, bikes, camper vans, life-size statues, and even sofas and other pieces of furniture.
Obviously, the "large format" we're referring to in this article is less about making grand-scale structures, and more about moving on from miniatures, ornaments, and other small objects or parts that an ordinary, non-industrial-sized 3D printer can produce.
Since you'll have a little more print bed area to play with, with a large-format 3D printer you can create detailed products that don't require a magnifying glass to really appreciate and also larger parts that would otherwise need to be printed in separate sections.

Good overall, instructions are not intuitive.
- Pros:great price, some upgradability, large heated print area and good quality prints. Very happy with it.
- Offer
- Cons : Instructions aren't clear with the photos. It is to be expected that any translation might not be perfect, which makes clear diagrams or photos essential. For example, the belts are mounted via wiretie, but in the instructions it looks like the belt is continuous and would mount directly onto pulleys. I had to contact their support to figure out what was meant. They aren't as clear with compatible filament types either.
It would be nice if they increased their upgradability so other products in their line are cross compatible (dual extruders etc.) (0)

Hi all! I bring to your attention my work, although it is intermediate, but still.
The goal is to assemble a 3D printer, initial data: Rumba board, DRV8825 drivers, D12mm L500mm linear shafts, corresponding linear bearings, table heater 400x400 elastic 220V 500W paired with a solid state relay, pasted it on 5mm glass.
I want to use H-bot for kinematics. Here are images of my work on modeling the main part - the X and Y axes. Please do not scold me strictly (the extruder and its carriage are upside down)))!!
And here is the pre-body, cut all the elements of the body of the body on a laser machine from 8 mm plywood, the dimensions are solid)))
But here's a question, I can't do without the advice of experts: it's possible to design with a fixed table at all!!!! and a movable frame along the Z axis inside which the X and Y axes. The table is static and the weight of the part on it does not strain any engines; or the table is still movable along Z, and the frame with the X and Y axes is tightly attached to the top of the printer, but the constantly growing weight of the part (the table is 400x400) will strain the Z axis sliders. How to be tell me good people)))) Thank you all for your time!
