Eclipson EBW-160 - 3D printed flying wing
THE BLACKWING
EBW-160 R/C
If you just want a great flying wing, without the FPV equipment, the R/C (Radio Controlled) Version of your Eclipson EBW-160 will suit your needs.
This model is extremely easy to print, build, transport, and fly thanks to the inherent simplification of the flying wing configuration. Another distinctive characteristic of this design is its longitudinal stability which is equal to the stability achieved by a classic airplane design. This characteristic makes it very easy and safe to hand launch. 3D printing design freedom allowed us to design an aircraft that is both very aerodynamic and lightweight. For instance, the airframe structure weighs in at only 265 gr for an airplane with a wingspan of 1.6 meters. With a low wing loading (23g/dm2) more than one hour flight times are achievable!
(This version does not include all the necessary parts for FPV flight , optional vertical tail and big volume version)
Includes:
-STL files
-G-codes for PLA and LW-PLA
-Decals (2 Schemes)

5 Applications for Aerospace 3D Printing
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is reported to have 30 3D printed parts, a record in the industry. What's more, it was recently announced that General Electric is investing $50 million to develop 3D printed fuel nozzles for the next generation of LEAP jet engines. The main reason for the increased interest of the aerospace industry in 3D printing technologies is the ability to produce significantly lighter parts. According to representatives of American Airlines, with a 500-gram reduction in aircraft weight, more than 40,000 liters of fuel can be saved annually.
Vivek Saxena, vice president of aerospace at technical advisory services firm ICF International, says that 3D printing technologies currently account for approximately 0.0002% of global production. In the aerospace industry specifically, 3D printing accounts for 0.002% of the $150 billion market. However, Saxena agrees with many experts that the market for 3D printed parts will reach $2 billion within the next decade. With such bright prospects, the potential uses for 3D printing look even more promising. Listed below are five of the most promising applications for these technologies in aerospace manufacturing.
Aircraft Wings
Given that relatively small aircraft parts are already being 3D printed, Boeing also considers it possible to create an entire wing. At this stage in the development of 3D printing, the production of large-sized objects is associated with a number of limitations, since with an increase in size, internal stress increases, which can cause distortion. However, the latest development from BAE Systems allows you to create reinforced metal parts by exposing each layer to ultrasonic waves. This helps to reduce stress, making it possible in the future to 3D print large objects such as aircraft wings.
Complex engine parts
In addition to 3D printing fuel nozzles, General Electric is also actively developing the ability to 3D print parts for the world's largest jet engine, the GE9X, for the next generation of Boeing 777X passenger aircraft. 3D printing technologies can also be useful in the development of experimental prototypes for performance testing without the need to spend large sums on numerical control equipment. A new collaboration between Autodesk and Stratasys, which 3D printed a life-size turboprop engine, shows how promising the use of 3D printing is in the production of jet engine parts.
Manufacture of parts in space
NASA spacecraft currently contains about 70 3D printed parts, but they are produced on Earth, which greatly complicates the supply chain and lengthens the lead time. Manufacture of the necessary parts in space would greatly reduce costs and simplify planning, without the need to send a rocket with the necessary parts and tools. 3D printing parts in space is a field currently being developed by research groups such as Made in Space and Lunar Buildings. Working with NASA, Made in Space is conducting experiments in zero gravity, testing the feasibility of using 3D printing on the International Space Station to produce the necessary parts and tools.
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles
BAE Systems recently announced that 2,040 new aircraft engineering concepts it has developed include equipment designed to create drones using a 3D printer on board. The idea is that the aircraft arriving at the scene of the accident assesses the situation and reports the data to the control center. The information is then transmitted to the onboard 3D printers, which print out the drones needed in a given situation. These drones can monitor the situation or even carry out rescue missions. Although the concept is still in development, BAE Systems has already invested more than $180 million in this research.
3D Printing as a Service (3DPaaS)
NASA is looking to use 3D Printing as a Service to rapidly build early prototypes. “3D printing allows us to more accurately convey the concept of the mission. We can literally see what other developers are thinking,” explains Tom Sonderstrom, head of IT at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. With 3DPaaS, engineers will be able to receive peer comments, design alternatives, and final prototype approval. In addition, this technology will be able to attract external specialists with original ideas, which will significantly reduce both development time and costs.
