| A model aircraft without a pilot's figure, it's like riding a horse without a head.
As they say - a beautiful aircraft model flies beautifully, and a model aircraft with a pilot is in every way more beautiful than an aircraft model without a pilot. In this article we will talk about making pilots for a radio-controlled aircraft on a 3D printer.
Earlier, when aircraft modelers did not have 3D printers, since they had not yet been invented, and then, when 3D printers were expensive, figurines were either bought or made from whatever they needed.
On our site there is an article Making a pilot for an aircraft model from the ceiling, but this requires the experience of a sculptor and artist, and not everyone has it! But, today, everyone can download STL files with a pilot figurine and print it out on their own! Let's see what we can print. You can go to download the figurine by clicking on the photo.
Pilot lanyards for 3D printing are not limited to these STL models.
There are very funny ones in the selection - "saluting" in a hat with earflaps and a topless pilotess :-) The selection is gradually replenished. But, downloading the figurine is only part of the story, and the simplest one at that.
Next, you need to configure the slicer to print the pilot figure. There are some general tips.
Print best with low shrinkage media such as PLA. The pilot does not experience stress in flight, so it makes sense to print with a wall thickness of 1-2 layers. After printing and separating the supports, it will not be superfluous to use an "acetone bath" (for PLA it is dichloromethane) to smooth the figure. After smoothing, it remains only to carefully paint the pilot figure, paints for plastic models Zvezda or their analogues are excellent for this.
