Hello everyone, This time we will talk about a useful thing in the household, a crusher for grapes. Everyone who has experienced the production of homemade wine knows what a laborious process it is to strip the berries from the twigs and crush them into a uniform mass. So, at the request of my dad, I started simplifying one of these processes, namely crushing berries.
Since autumn and the grapes were already ripe, I had to speed up and postpone all other crafts. After a little look at how industrial samples of various crushers work, I sat down for modeling.
I simplified the design as much as I could, only six parts: a body, two shafts, two gears - a synchronizer and a cover.
An important point: you need to crush the berries, but you can not crush the seeds. For this reason, the design provides a constant gap of 4 mm between the shafts.
The teeth on the rollers grab the berries and prevent them from jumping back out.
One of the characteristics of these crushers is performance, unfortunately I didn’t think of measuring it, but for those who are interested, you can calculate it from the video) The material of the main parts is PET-G as food and acid resistant, and the gears are printed from ABS. The cover is screwed to the body with eight M4 stainless steel bolts, the bolts are screwed directly into the body of the body.
In order not to print a pen, I looked at the handle from a circular grater, and made the end of the drive shaft so that this handle fits, it turned out well, there are two devices, and one handle.
Video review and actual work test below. And my dad said best of all about the usefulness of this device: “If you hadn’t made this twist, I wouldn’t even pick grapes, how much you take with it”))

ProtoCycler filament extruder saves on 3D printing plastic

ReDeTec is preparing to ship the first shipments of the desktop filament fabricator.
The implementation of the project was rather delayed: the developers had a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo back in 2014 and intended to arrange deliveries by the summer of 2015.
In fact, the project has reached the final stage of readiness only now, but against the backdrop of the news about the failure of the Tiko 3D printer, blaming the team for sluggishness is somehow inconvenient. At least ReDeTec did a lot of testing and refining the design before launching the production phase, according to the company blog.
About a week ago, the developers reported that the last batch of components had arrived and that everything needed to secure pre-orders received during the crowdfunding campaign was in place. At the same time, pre-orders are being accepted. ProtoCycler owners will be able to make filament by recycling bad models and junk, as well as using relatively cheap granular plastic.
ProtoCycler is a complete home filament factory, consisting of a crusher, a screw filament extruder with a control system for the diameter of the produced rod, and even a mechanism for winding filament on spools.
According to the calculations of the developers, the device allows you to achieve savings of up to 80%.
The extrusion speed reaches three meters per minute with a diameter error of no more than 0.05 mm. If it is necessary to put into circulation defective models or garbage, the crusher chews pieces of plastic measuring 10x12 cm. Although the extruder is designed to produce filament from PLA and ABS plastic, theoretically any polymer that softens at temperatures below 260 ° C can be used, just do not forget about harmful fumes. The power consumption of the device does not exceed 90 watts.
The company plans to fill investor orders with Indiegogo during the first quarter of this year, after which pre-order shipments and retail sales will begin. The ProtoCycler sale price is $900. Additional information is available on the manufacturer's website.
