3D Printer: Sunhokey prusa i3 2015 review | Xylitol

I'm the owner of a Sunhokey prusa i3 2015 model, and i forgot to talk about it so here is a review of my model.

Build volume is 200mm x 200mm x180mm (approximate) arround 15KG and 12v rated.

I bought it in kit to assemble for 300$ (including taxes) from Shenzhen Sunhokey Electronics Co.
Here is the global view of the printer:

The Hotbed is a MK2b, with a BuildTak plastic sheet on print bed.
Customized with a Hackers sticker and a RGB 5050 SMD LED strip.

IR Remote controler for LED.

Comparison between the original Sunhokey hotbed and my MK2b hotbed (on the left):

The power wire of the resistor on my original Sunhokey hotbed have burn and damaged the plate.
MK2b is a very good alternative, and heat come munch more rapidly, i would recommend replacing the original hotbed.
My MK2b is using this time silicone insulated wires and a thermistor 3950, everything is attached with high temperature tape (Kapton).
Then i'm covering the back of the plate with styrofoam-like for heat transfer.

Bowden extruder:

The Hotend is a ALU J-head, with a 0.4mm nozzle and a push fit pneumatic for the PTFE Tubing.
Teflon tube is for 1.75mm filament.

Hardware connect:

A Sunhokey 3D Printer owner on thinginverse reported that the motherboard was catching fire, i never experienced this problem.

Now for Endstops, you can know their statut (triggered or not) by sending to your printer the gcode: M119
If you are going to use an inductive sensor and a MKS Gen board, keep in mind that the board have pullup resistors (meaning you need to desolder) so check your board schematic first !
Here is a pic i took, showing where the resistors are located, R28 goes to microcontroller and R20 is pullup.
Resistors are using 0603, yes this is small, if you use hot air beware of connectors.

I would recommend using NPN DC6-36V LJ12A3-4-Z/BX 12 MM as proximity sensor, this version have built-in NPN transistor, and so all needed is to edit Marlin and add the 10k and 15k resistors on the sensor.

Making maintenance operations very easy.

Maintenance tools:

CRC 41220 Multi-purpose grease (100 ml) for the trapezoidal screw (Z axis)
And to lubricate the rest: WD-40 3 in one Drip Oil (200ml) any VG 100 oil can be fine i suppose.
For cleaning the acrylic frame i'm using KFC alcohol-based hand wipes (work very well against dust !)

And of course safety gloves, if you think this is optional.. wait to have a 3D printer ;)
You aren't a truly 3D printer enthusiast if you haven't burn yourself once or cut yourself while removing a print or doing maintenance stuff :)

Some even do battle wounds.

Now related to problem i encountered:

⚠ This printer don't work with Cura.
For an unknown reason cura turn off the fan, but anyway the manufacturer configuration is established with Repetier.

🔥 Original hotbed have burn
As i explained the hotbed is lame, and must be changed.

Apart that i don't really have negative critics about it, only improvement ideas.
If you want some:
- Add another cooling fan
- Changing the acrylic for a metal frame or at least the hotbed chariot by MDF or something who can resist more to temperature deformation (although i don't have deformation problem)

This printer is friendly, easy to assemble, (instructions on how to build come in a video DVD)

Easy to calibrate and do work of quality with PLA, printing with ABS is a bit challenging.
May only the challenge guide you :)

Hello dear reader.
I want to present to your subjective judgment a review of a Chinese miracle of technology called Sunhokey Prusa i3 Acrylic. So let's get started.
Let's start with delivery. Delivery took about two weeks, all this happiness was delivered by DHL to Kazakhstan. I want to warn my compatriots right away, if you have not previously encountered DHL, get ready for the fact that they will be stupid out of the blue.
Firstly, you will be required to sign an agreement with them (if necessary, I will post the form in the comments, the usual jpg in which you need to sign and send them a scan, no one needs the original.).
Secondly, you will be asked to pay a brokerage fee in the amount of one and a half thousand tenge (however, this information is outdated. Now the price is higher, but not much. On the edhl.kz website, the information says about 2000 tenge.)
Only after that DHL will start customs clearance of your cargo. The procedure takes 2-4 days.
In total, I received the box, signed the invoice and happily ran to collect this happiness. We must pay tribute, the box was not damaged.
Inside, everything is covered with polyethylene foam, which protects our valuable cargo quite well.
Together with the printer, I ordered 3 spools of plastic, but I forgot to indicate that I would like ABS, for which I paid. The seller put all 3 spools of PLA plastic. Fortunately, at least the colors were given exactly the ones that I asked for. Also, along with the printer, two spools of trial plastic are included as a gift, they were still there in our large box. Trial plastic was two colors, black (PLA) and white (ABS).

Let's start assembling. All parts are laid out in their cells cut out in polyethylene, acrylic parts are also covered on both sides with packaging film.
Separate compartments are also cut out for engines. All bolts, nuts, washers are in individual resealable bags with signatures of what, where, and what size it is.
The assembly process took two working days (it was all assembled during working hours). Under the spoiler are photos of some parts during the assembly process.

Electronics:

The MKS Gen-2Z board version 1.1 is used as the “brain” here (it is a customized version of the MKS Gen v1.1 board converted for two motors on the Z axis. According to the manufacturer, connecting a second extruder to this board is impossible). All connectors on this board are keyed, so plugging something upside down will not work, which is undoubtedly a plus for a person who is not very connected with electronics (polarity must be observed, many people know this, yes ... But not all).
Stepper motor drivers are the most common A4988, I got it already with Vref set, but I slightly adjusted it to fit my needs.
The kit also included heatsinks for drivers, I advise you to attach them right away.
Stepper motors: Nema17 SL42STh58-1504A in the amount of 5 pieces. One for the XY axis, two for the Z axis, and one for the extruder. The wires are inserted deep into the engines, and it will not work out without picking. The wires must be said to be sooooo long, and at the end of the installation you are left with a kind of pasta factory on the left side of the printer.
Hotend: he's a hothead. This printer has a Chinese copy of the E3D v5, with a “guess it!” nozzle diameter. Maybe get 0.3mm, or maybe 0.5, and if you're lucky, then 0.4mm. In general, this is not very critical, but for good printing it is desirable to know the diameter of the nozzle in advance. Personally, I had to find out this empirically (and as it turned out in my version it was a 0.5mm nozzle).
Extruder: We have an all-metal extruder, with a brass gear, a gear with very large teeth, and if the settings are set incorrectly, it simply gnaws the bar into powder. Which is not buzzing, since printing simply stops, due to the lack of something to print. I also advise you to immediately print a suitable airflow for the thermal barrier (E3d v5 fan holder), since the native fan mount places it extremely poorly, and immediately cools both the model, the thermal barrier, and the extruder (which reduces the temperature of the extruder itself, but for us it’s not really necessary).
Heated bed: He is also a heating table. It is made in the form of an acrylic plate fixed on round rails with three bearings. From above, the heating element itself is placed on the bolts with springs (an aluminum plate with wiring for heating).
The kit also comes with yellow masking tape. The manufacturer assumes that we will print directly on top of aluminum, on which we will stick this very adhesive tape. Tried maybe, but not worth it. It is better to immediately think about installing glass, preferably heat-resistant. So does a mirror. Required dimensions ~21*21cm. This device has a slightly larger table than the standard 20 * 20, but this does not affect the working area.

Just as important, this KIT has an LCD screen that allows you to control the printing process much easier than through the Repetier Host application.

Also in the box you can find a CD with video instructions, assembly photos, board pinout, and slicer settings. And of course, outdated software versions (repetier host and slic3r).

Before that everything was fine. Now let's start with the bad.
When connecting everything and everything, after I sent the printer to the “Home” position, it did it once, and my control board died. That is, absolutely.. But fortunately, after talking with the manager Eva, I received a new board along with spare drivers (which died along with the board) for only one dollar. Of course, they offered to send them a burned-out board for replacement and repair, but this option did not suit me very much. We must give them their due, they quickly adapt to the client and go to a meeting.
About a month later, I received my replacement board and driver kit.
I must say that by this time I had been tormenting the printer mercilessly for some time, trying to adapt to Chinese plastic. Nothing good to say about the plastic, alas, I can not say.
During the absence of my native “brains”, I found in the bins of my homeland (and to be precise, I asked my friends) an arduino mega board and ramps, and assembled everything on them. . I managed to start this miracle far from the first time, and for a long time instead of eye-pleasing products, I received pieces of plastic on the table, and a bunch of spent nerves.
I managed to achieve acceptable quality with ABS plastic, but it was also far from immediately. PLA I still torture (well, the stone flower does not come out).

This Betsova was printed for about 10 hours, and in height this is almost the maximum print size.
