In pursuit of sustainable products, Signify has been focused on leveraging 3D printing in small regional printing hubs catering to our customers on-demand. In doing so we have found new design freedom, become more flexible in our source materials and prevented over-production for a circular future.

Statement designs. Sustainably printed.

These are lamps with a purpose.

"Nets are the main tools used by fishermen to earn a living, but fishing nets waste is a genuine problem here in Cornwall due to the lack of a proper recycling infrastructure. Around the world, most of the fishing nets were burned, put in landfill, or worst of all, dumped into the sea, causing massive environmental problems." — Ian Falconer, founder of Fishy Filaments Ltd.

3D printed from old fishing nets gathered directly from the ocean, made locally and on demand, this special lamp empowers people to make a conscious choice without having to compromise on beauty.

Inspired by its origin.

To honor the purposeful origin of the source material, as well as the ocean itself, these lamps have a coastal-inspired surface finish that comes to life in textures and colors that bring the feeling of the seashore to your home.

3D printing completely changes the way we design new product. It's much closer to craftsmanship in a very iterative process together with the machine we create code and new textures and we wanted to reflect those new textures in the product. Honoring the ocean and the source material for example with fishnet and sand dune textures.

Circular materials.

We are taking 3D printing to a new level by pioneering a new design craftmanship where the beauty of printed forms, textures and materials are expressed while solving the technical challenges of a sustainability supply chain in a commercially viable way. We are constantly driven by the challenge to create value in a product with its material origin in a waste stream.

Our technologies allow us to initiate partnerships with material suppliers of all scales. This grants us the flexibility to initiate projects with suppliers offering differing types and quantities of waste materials.

nine0000 Philips introduces the world's first 3D printed smart light bulbs and a range of other smart home products who are more or less interested in news from the world of modern technologies. New products from these categories appear quite often, but devices that combine the best of both worlds are very rare. Philips continues to develop the idea of smart lighting and has now introduced several new products in this segment, of which the world's first 3D printed smart light bulb is of particular interest. nine0003

The device is compatible with the rest of the Hue range and is available in two versions: Entity desktop (picture above) and Tempest pendant (picture below). According to the source, up to 16 million colors will be available to the owners of these lamps, which can be controlled using a companion application for Android and iOS. Thus, they can set the lighting based on a certain time of day or their own preferences. Unfortunately, the cost of such a toy is quite high - the desktop version will cost $4445, and the hanging version will cost $4135. Both lamps will be available for pre-order starting March 31 on the Meet Hue website. nine0003

In addition to 3D-printed smart bulbs, Philips Hue has added a dedicated wall switch to the Philips Hue product range that allows you to control your Hue paws wirelessly via Wi-Fi.

Notably, the Hue tap switch does not require a power source to turn the Hue lights on or off. To do this, they use kinetic energy, which is generated at the moment the user interacts with one of the four buttons. The switch is aimed at users accustomed to more traditional light control methods, who do not want to use mobile devices for this and bother with installing special software. With Hue tap, users can set four different lighting modes. As mentioned above, the Hue tap switch does not require batteries to operate, but it requires a special transmitter to be connected to the Wi-Fi router using Ethernet. A maximum of 50 Hue bulbs can be connected to the switch. Hue tap wall switch goes on sale for $59this summer.

The latest addition to the Hue smart lighting product line is the Hue Lux bulb, which emits only white light. She is more accessible. A set of two such bulbs and a dedicated Philips router/transmitter will cost $99, while a set of three “colored” Hue bulbs and a transmitter is $199.
