Hi all.
With this article, I finish the show of works on the Battletech universe, demonstrating the potential of the Ender-3 in creative projects with another author's work. Meet the Original MAD-3R Marauder, one of the most famous Battletech 'Mechs in existence.
Marauder and his original sketch from the wiki served as the basis for creating the model and, of course, I "rethought" it with my vision. But despite this, it always seemed to me that he was somehow uncomfortable in the universe, since often its creators simply borrowed designs from Japanese Macro projects, etc. And it was often noticeable.
Marader's design has always seemed alien to me and often attracted attention with its non-typicality. Periodically, I really wanted to get to him and model my version.
Since it has soft shaped notes, I really wanted to try it in print and check the quality of the printer in practice. And then the opportunity fell out - a fan from Russia showed interest in him. Before that, I couldn't decide to 'adopt' him :))) As a result, the project was very warmly received by a number of fans outside of Russia, and I sent a number of copies to them.
3D modeling was done in Fusion360 - I used part of the "sculpt" module in it and classic solid body modeling. The total turnaround time was approximately 5 days. Marader was created easily and quickly, despite the parallel work with a number of projects. It was fun and interesting to make it, looking forward to the result in 3D printing. The height of the model was chosen 24 centimeters.
0.4 mm nozzle was used for 3D printing for maximum quality, considering that it will probably be painted. Printing layer - from 80 to 100 microns. Plastic for printing - PLA from FDPlast, color "Dorian Gray", as I have not yet found analogues in color and quality of detail transfer, as well as ease of use, not to mention its price. I chose their products for tests - despite the fact that they allegedly do not have very good reviews. In fact, this plastic turned out to be the best for my projects, and I personally made sure that it is very good.
The printing temperature used was between 190 and 200 degrees.
There were 4 printers in the project. The time to print was about 4 days, and the average time per piece was 8-12 hours. Print speeds - 30-40 mm per second. - to convey maximum detail. Some of them are extinguished by the smart Simplify3D algorithm, depending on the height of the model.
The result of work
The model turned out very smooth and clear. Assembles without glue, mobility is limited in the legs. It remains to clear the traces of supports and move on ... to painting :), but happy owners with post-processing experience will already do this.
I have no doubts about the powerful connection between the Simplify3D slicer and the mechanics of Ender-3 printers. I will write a little more about this soon.
