Probably, like many on the portal, when buying a 3D printer, I thought, I’ll swing, I’ll print this and that, I’ll place prints on Avito, the money will drip a little. At least for consumables.
In fact, everything turned out to be much more complicated.
Before the new year, I tried to put figurines of chickens on Avito - without success.
Numbers of the year are colored with acrylic paint.
As a result, the chickens went to buy New Year gifts for the wife's colleagues :).
Then there were whistles and spinners :) By zeros.
I kept one spinner for myself, gave the second one to my son. One whistle as a gift to my son :).
While talking with a friend who has a part-time job as a programmer under a GPC agreement, I learned that they print prototype cases for their equipment on the side. There are complaints about both the quality of printing and the timing. The idea was born by itself.
He offered to try to print a model for me. They just had to print a prototype of the new building.
It was interesting for me to try it myself (before that I had never printed such large and long-printing models), and if successful, they would pay me for the printing and I would take over the printing of the next prototypes.
I decided to print from PLA, it's easier, although a little more expensive. Printed with plastic prostoplast 'violet'.
Cases are just prototypes for testing sizes and shapes, and by and large the material does not matter. Plus, pla does not shrink as much as, for example, abs.
The first model was this case, consisting of 2 parts.
The lower (large) part was quite simple and printed out easily, but took a long time.
The upper part, with all its apparent simplicity, twisted this way and that. As a result, I printed flat, on supports.
It took almost a day to print the entire corpus.
The customer was satisfied with the quality and terms.
Complete instrument. Different lighting gave a different color.
Strange side stripes. Wobling?
The blue cap was printed later, the border was not peeled off.
Then there was another case for the new device.
Mostly printed on supports from below. The customer said to print that way. Based on the experience of printing the previous building.
Picking out supports was 'fun'.
Estimated weight 214, actual 232. there were inconsistencies between the model and the board. And my purple pla is over. Printed already in blue pla prostoplast 'blue sea'.
Well, actually the unit itself (a prototype board and a prototype case) in total, assembled.
There were streaks on the side surfaces of the first body, which printed almost perfectly.
As it turned out, printing and working out a prototype on a 3D printer is much cheaper than immediately printing a master model with which they will make a mold for casting cases. And then reprint the master model, in case of inconsistencies. The master model is not printed on an fdm printer.
Orders for 3D printing sometimes pop up where you don't even expect them. Let the orders are not large and rather rare, but it is much better than nothing.
